Thunder Storm lets players decide what sort of risk they want to take on the reels. You can bet anything from 0.01€ per payline and still stand a chance to make a profit. So let’s have a closer look at this one-of-a-kind slot game and its main features in our complete review.

The Wind Is Changing

Visually speaking, Thunder Storm is quite unique. First of all, weather-themed slot games are not exactly the largest category on the market, with the notable exception of Today’s Weather from Microgaming and its TV-ready layout. Thunder Storm takes another path and sticks to a classic Merkur style through and through.

The reels are floating over a dark red background, within a metallic frame with the iconic Merkur command bar at the bottom. The reel symbols are therefore the main focus of the entire game screen, and their original 3D can prove a little polarising: you will either love it or hate it, there is no real middle ground there. In a nutshell, Thunder Storm is an original game both through its general theme and execution. Let’s take a closer at its more practical aspects next.

Find Shelter Before the Storm Comes

Thunder Storm follows a simple set of rule, as explicitly detailed in the command bar itself. The 5 reels contain 20 paylines, and the plus and minus buttons underneath them will let you activate as many as you see fit for the next turn. You can bet from 0.01€ to 2€ per line, making the maximum possible bet worth 40€ in total, when all paylines are activated at the same time.

The bet max button will let you skip to the highest bet possible in one click, or you can turn to the autoplay mode to allow the reels to spin on their own.

Each win on the reels activate the 2 optional gamble mini games: the card guessing challenge or the win ladder. Pick the one you prefer to try and double up your gains, or collect your winnings directly.

The basic paytable features both the usual card icons and some original elements such as clouds, dandelions and lightnings, for a maximum reward equivalent to 500 times your current line bet. But that is only the beginning, as Thunder Storm has a few more surprises to offer players.

You’re Not in Kansas Any More

In terms of special features, Thunder Storm has quite a lot to offer. Start by keeping an eye out for the rainbow symbol, which behaves like any other icon except for the fact that it can even award a small cash prize on its own. The more rainbows you combine, the higher the rewards get, with a big finish at x10,000 for a combination of 5 rainbows across the reels.

The red-haired girl is a scatter, she can therefore award cash prizes wherever she lands. These prizes go up to x2000. The tornado symbol, however, is probably the one you really want to find. 3 or more of them combined trigger both a cash prize and a simple mini game, where you will be transported to a different game screen. Click on the storms to unveil surprise prizes, which will be instantly added to your credit total.

Follow the Wind to the Big Wins

Thunder Storm is a conflicting game, where original and exciting elements mingle with more disappointing features. On the plus side, the generous rainbow symbol, low volatility and quasi-unique game universe will be enough to attract curious and ambitious players – beginners will especially appreciate the high hit ratio.

On the other hand, the uninspiring graphics (especially during the bonus feature) and not-so-exciting win animations are a bit of a let-down.

In conclusion, Thunder Storm is best put into the hands of beginners or players willing to do anything to get away from the classic fruits and slot machine themes. For a similar gameplay but with higher volatility, try Spin 2 Million by Playtech and try your luck on just 5 paylines this time.
