Agent Istanbul Slot Review

Istanbul of course is in Turkey and is a city famous for its war-torn history, its culture and now, it appears, its espionage. Despite being ostensibly set in Istanbul, there is very little in this game which resembles the city’s most famous landmarks. As a consequence, this slot could really be set in any major urban metropolis.

Merkur’s Agent Istanbul video slot is a game which has a simple layout to put it mildly. This is a very clean cut and uncomplicated game, making it suitable for novice players. More experienced punters however may find the simplistic design of this game isn’t suitably challenging. They just isn’t enough here to hold the attention of the average gambler. Nevertheless, despite its lack of features or complexity, there’s still enough about the free Agent Istanbul slot to warrant a closer look.

Calling All Special Agents

Agent Istanbul is a simple 10 payline slot which has medium to high variance. Slots with higher variance tend to require more time and patience before they can be coaxed into dispensing their higher value prizes. Thus, Agent Istanbul presents something of a paradox. On the one hand, the low number of paylines mean this is a game which might be intended more low limits players and yet the higher variance means it might be more suited to high limits players.

The max bet that can be set in this game for example stands at just 20 coins. For many punters, this simply won’t be enough given that there are many other slots out there that will let you wager several hundred coins at a time. When you select your bet you by clicking on the coin icon or clicking on the max bet icon, the number of active paylines will be displayed with a series of lines overlying the 5 by 3 grid. In the background, you can make out a city skyline at dusk with a series of street lamps lighting away.

A Touch of Turkey

One of the best things about Agent Istanbul is that its developer have elected not to clutter up the playing controls that appear below the reels. As a consequence, this mobile-compatible game is very easy to work on Android and iPhone. It works well on desktop too of course and provides a clear example of why developers don’t need to clutter things by adding umpteen buttons. There is an autoplay option here which can be set as high as 100 spins but otherwise it’s just a case of clicking on that green spin button and letting the action commence.

When the action does get going, you will find that Agent Istanbul is a surprisingly lively online casino game. There is a stomping upbeat soundtrack and convincing game physics including reels that whizz past surprisingly quickly. Not everything about the slot is good though it must be said. For one thing, the playing card symbols look drab and unimaginative and don’t correlate with the theme of the game in any way whatsoever. The themed symbols look far better, even though the graphical style deployed won’t be to everyone’s taste it should be noted.

On a Mission

Agent Istanbul comes with an RTP of 95.75% which is about average for a game of this nature. The various secret agents who operate as the game’s wild symbols will substitute for all other symbols. While in many respects this is a low limits slot, there is one thing in the game’s favour and that is the fact that there are some serious amount of free spins to be won. In fact you can win between 10 and 50 free games by landing enough scatter symbols on a payline. It is also possible to retrigger this feature. Gamblers seeking out similar slots should have a go at something like Grab Da Loot by Noble Gaming or Beautiful Nature by Bully, two slots with very similar characteristics. Alternatively, Cocktail Nights by Gamblify is also worth a look.

We’ve Seen Better Sights

Ancient Istanbul is a reasonable game for casual players but it is not going to appeal to serious slots players. If you have some experience of playing online slots you will know that there are games with far better graphics, audio and gameplay. As an introduction to the world of online slots, there is nothing wrong with this effort from Merkur. Ultimately though, most players with tire of the simplistic graphics and will wind up craving something more substantial that they can get their teeth into.
