Pirates Arrr Us Slot Review

The brand is known for turning out various themed real cash slots, so the content of this one shouldn’t come as a surprise, but in fact it does, though the why behind that is more complex. Merkur are used to playing it safe with designs – they tend to stick to the basics and hope their winning formula shines through. But they haven’t done that this time. Instead, they’ve created an enticing and in-depth atmosphere.

We’re so blown away by the progress seemingly made here, that we’re desperate to cast off and get our hands on all that glorious booty out there!

Drinks with the Captain

Getting to know the captain isn’t always a privilege many of us get to experience, but with a bit of luck and some rubbing of gold, you might just be able to change your fortunes. The skull-adorned coin, that looks similar to the medallion seen in Pirates of the Caribbean, is needed to get on deck.

Only three of them are said to be needed in tales of old, and we can confirm for you right now that that is indeed the case – we only got a win of three, but we were soon clinking glasses with the captain.

When alone with him, he’ll ask you to select from three rows of coins, each of the rows representing a different component: extra life, wilds and special symbols. As our captain is a generous one, he than adds some extra symbols in for good luck, after which your free games will start. We got 8 extra rounds with three wild symbols and two special icons.

It’s All in the Booty

Keeping that pile of gold gleaming and looking like new takes a lot of hard work, and by hard work we mean digging for treasure chests. Fortunately for you, the captain has taken you to a nearby island that has a lot of cash hidden away, all you need to do is spin the reels.

Out of the 8 games we were awarded, we got a win on nearly every single spin, with one round being the only exception. That’s pretty darn good going for a slot machine, bonus round or not. Some of the wins may only have been worth 0.80 credits, but several rounds of a win that size can still lead to a nice bag of coins.

The Spice of Life

Variance is actually all over in this title, even if to begin with it looks like little diversity is delivered. When you look at the paytable, you notice there’s only a handful of special tiles, with four symbols acting as the wild. That doesn’t sound very giving, but it actually is, even more so when you move to the bonus round and set a course to Wins Arrr Us!

This is one of those times where Merkur have done us a favour going with subtly and more structured rewards, rather than for the flash in the pan; we have greater time to savour the effects, and we don’t become overwhelmed. It would be a lie if we said that no boredom occurs when playing, for hardly any game is immune to that, but we found ourselves less tired of this slot than most.

A Pirate’s Life for Me

Pirates Arrr Us is a slot machine with character, and one of the few to come from Merkur that seems to really appreciate what gamers want from a themed video slot. We could set sail everyday, all day, but we have to surrender to reality every now and again – our families miss us.

If you too want to go adventuring with the crew of this vessel, all you’ll need is a min wager of 0.20, then you’ll be on the deck and serving under the captain before you know it. We’re off on another island tour – maybe we’ll see you on our way back home…?
