This 5-reel, 15-payline slot game allows you to play from 0.15 a spin, but if you consider yourself to be a high roller, you’ll love the 1,125 stake limit in place. Aside from the progressive jackpots, there’s a 10,000-coin base game jackpot and wilds, scatters and free spins to get your hands on.

Monkeying Around

Sun Wukong is set high up in the mountainous areas of rural China. Sun rays pierce through the clouds, green trees wave in the breeze and your slot machine is placed in the side of the highest mountain that stands. The story of Sun Wukong takes place in the reels, thanks to the following symbols; Monkey King, horse, pig, monk, warrior, plums, Sun Wukong logo and card values 9 through to A.

A typical Asian soundtrack plays out as you spin the reels, which you can mute if you prefer. The control panel sits beneath the mountain allowing you to adjust your stake and paylines. Play manually or use the autoplay feature to sit back and watch the wins roll in.

Big Rewards

There is a mini, minor, major and grand jackpot on offer – these can be triggered randomly after any spin – no matter how big or small your budget it. The amount of cash on offer grows from the smallest jackpot to the biggest, but getting your hands on any one of those is going to be superb.

There are big wins that can fall during the base game, especially with the Monkey King as he awards the biggest payout of 10,000 coins. High value symbols include the monk and the pig – both awarding 600 coins and the warrior who awards 400 coins.

Slot Features

Golden Monkey is your wild – this symbol not only awards the highest base game win, but it substitutes for other symbols found within the game (bar scatter) to help form winning paylines.

The Sun Wukong logo is your scatter symbol, 3 or more in view and you will trigger the free spins bonus. There are three tiers to the free spins bonus and you can choose which one you wish to have:

• Valley of the Sun: 20 free spins with a 2x multiplier
• Mountain of Fruit and Flowers: 10 free spins with a 4x multiplier
• Kingdom of Heaven: 8 free spins with a 5x multiplier.

Sun Wukong has a Wu Shi Jackpot round and this can be randomly triggered on any spin. There will be a wheel on the screen and you are required to try and match three of the same lion symbols to win. The amount you win will correspond with the three symbols you matched.

Decisions Decisions

When it comes to the free spins bonus, do you go for the most free spins with the least multiplier – or opt for the least amount of spins with the biggest multiplier? In our opinion, it doesn’t really make a difference because you will only win what the slot machine wants you to win.

We were lucky enough to choose all three levels and accumulated roughly the same amount in each one. Sun Wukong is a nice addition to the Playtech catalogue of slots, offering big wins via the base game or bonus features. This is a medium to high variance slot machine, so don’t expect to win big straight away.
