King Kong Slot Review

Based upon Peter ‘Lord of the Rings’ Jackson’s 2005 remake, the slot is set in the ominously named Skull Island, where wannabe screenwriter Jack Driscoll and his enchanting companion Anne Darrow encounter the unhinged film director Carl Denham.

Slot games based upon films are pretty common these days, with seemingly every developer having a crack at creating something along such lines. With such a big license franchise in its possession, has Playtech been able to do King Kong justice with this particular real money slots release?

Rampaging Through the Trees

Theme wise there isn’t too much to really talk about here, as Playtech have simply re-skinned graphics from the film on the reels. Creativity and originality was never going to be the calling card of this game, but that doesn’t mean it looks bad. In fact, if you take the game on face value, it actually looks pretty good, with King Kong rolling out some impressive production values.

Getting a Taste of the Big City

Players can experience the adventure in two distinct game modes, either facing King Kong face-to-face in his savage kingdom in Wild Jungle Mode, or pursuing him through his iconic rampage in Dramatic Big City Bonus Mode. No matter which you choose, you’ll be offered the same paytable prizes, yet in the bonus mode you’ll be able to win ever-increasing amounts of coins by matching up 3, 4 or 5 symbols.

Looking at what wins you what here, a run of Captain Englehorn symbols grants you up to 300 coins; Carl Denham symbols wins you 500; Jack Driscoll gets you 600, while a run of Ann Darrows gifts you 1,000 coins. Betting wise, the range goes from 0.20 all the way up to 20.00 across the 5 reels and 20 paylines.

Look Out, it’s Wild Kong

Lurking behind the slots is Wild Kong, who, if you’re lucky, will furiously rip other symbols from the screen and put in their place the symbols you need to make a winning combo. A run of between 3 and 5 Scattered Kongs, meanwhile, will multiply your winnings from 5x all the way up the metaphorical skyscraper to 100x.

Both Wild and Scattered Kong can push the excitement of the game even further, however. In Wild Jungle Mode, a run of 3 or more Wild Kongs can hurl you into a Wild Jungle Re-Spin, which awards you three re-spins in which all the Wild Kongs remain in place, greatly increasing your chance at winning. A run of 3 or more Scattered Kongs, on the other hand, will activate the Skull Island Bonus, a Pick-Me Bonus, which takes you screaming through King Kong’s island kingdom.

Screaming Through the Metropole

Big City Bonus Mode offers a souped-up version of the re-spin feature we encountered in Jungle Mod e. Also triggered by the appearance of 3 or more Wild Kongs, Wild Kong Re-Spin mode activates 3 different spins: the first spin in this mode places Expanded Wilds on reels 1 and 5, the second places them on reels 2 and 4, while the final spin grants you Expanded Wilds on reels 1, 3 and 5 respectively, greatly pumping up your chances of winning.

A Taste of Silver Screen

King Kong represents a massive project for Playtech, as they have clearly worked tirelessly in attempt to the do the film justice. Another game from the developer that appears to have received a similar level of investment is The Mummy, with the game carrying near identical production values. If you are looking for a similar cinema like slots experience, The Mummy is certainly worth casting an eye over.

King Kong Delivers Monster-Sized Slots Action!

If they keep up the production of games of this stature, it will only be a matter of time before Playtech reaches the dizzying heights of the online slots world. With reams of features, bountiful bonuses, and graphics worthy of Peter Jackson himself, this medium variance game should find its royal status among online slot games easily assured.
