Fantasy and fortune go hand in hand in this charming 5-reel slot from Playtech. Let the motley crew of wizards, ogres and fairies guide you to the priceless treasure.
Magic, mystery and a dash of mayhem are the primary ingredients in Playtech’s Fortune Hill. The feature-rich game provides ample ways to wager and win, ensuring that there’s much more to do than simply hit the spin button repeatedly. The game clearly takes its cues from Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, complete with a Hobbit-sized house that lanklets would have to squat double to enter. Despite the obvious debt it owes to Frodo et al, the aesthetics of Fortune Hill are markedly different.
This ain’t no dark fairy tale: it’s a cheerful little game where sunshine and gold coins are the order of the day. If you want gruesome ghouls and hideous monsters, go watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy. If you want cash and cartoon graphics, play Fortune Hill. With an intro sequence that touts the prospect of winning a Magic Mushroom Bonus, Fortune Hill is a tripped out slot that provides a welcome escape from the banality of everyday life.
25 Paylines
The 5-reel slot features 25 adjustable paylines and a cast of eccentric characters who will help or hinder your progress depending on how charitable they’re feeling. The minimum bet is 0.25, and rises all the way up to 625.00. There are no surprises to be found in terms of game settings; use the plus and minus signs to adjust the bet level and enable turbo or autospin as you see fit.
The game commences with a lavish intro sequence that pretty much emulates the opening sequence of LOTR if Lord of the Rings had been made to look like a Noddy cartoon. It’s an entertaining intro, but it’s one you’ll elect to skip past when you next return to the game.
Crisp Gameplay
The best word to describe Fortune Hill is ‘crisp’. The graphics are very sharp, detailed and graced with real depth. The animations are neat too; a nice touch is the wooden wheel to the right of the reels that spins to reveal bonuses and liven up the base game. The playing card symbols are carved out of wood, with stunning lighting effects helping to make them look lifelike. The magician is the most valuable symbol on the reels, which is why he’s the game’s designated wild symbol. Four magicians are worth 1,000 and 5 are worth 5,000.
The remaining symbols are all deftly designed, including a Disney Tinkerbell-esque fairy, a mushroom, rainbow, sack of gold, wand and wizard’s hat. Look out for the money bag landing on the fortune wheel to the right of the reels; every time it shows up beside the pointer, you’ll be awarded a multiplier of 2-6x your bet. If the wheel stops on the wizard’s hat, you’ll be granted three respins accompanied by Freezing Wilds.
Fortune Features
The ways to win in Fortune Hill are almost too many to mention, but include the magic wand appearing on the wheel of fortune to award a multiplier of up to 15x and the mushroom symbol appearing on reels 1 and 5 simultaneously to activate the much-vaunted Magic Mushroom Bonus. Grab as many mushrooms as you can without disturbing the slumbering troll.
Similar Games
Fortune Hill features an RTP of 92.36% and has medium volatility. If you’re looking for games in the same vein, you could try Odobo’s The Oddventurers or Pieces of 8 from IGT. All three games have an identical number of paylines and similar features including free spins accompanied by win multipliers. Other games that aren’t too dissimilar from Fortune Hill include Big Bad Wolf by Quickspin and Top Gun, which is another Playtech release.
King of the Hill
It might not boast the most original theme ever to grace a slot, but in action Fortune Hill proves to be an excellent game. It’s fun, it looks sharp, it’s well animated and it’s got a memorable cast of characters. There’s a lot of ways to win at this Playtech slot, with much of the action generated by the wheel of fortune. Give it a spin and see what sort of magic you can rustle up.
