All Greek to Me
Hercules makes an immediate impression with his appearance on the loading page, looking muscular and supreme with a sort of lion cloak that’s worn on his head. The introduction music is about a sense of urgency and power, which is matched by the bonuses being described even before the main page has been reached.
The game’s name is written in gold and purple letters, with the different types of bonuses replacing it at intermittent moments. The gold colour theme continues at the bottom of the screen with all the buttons for everything including Spin, the 2 columns and the Greek city’s buildings in the background. The four different types of power options (linked to the 4 different jackpots on offer) are explained on the very helpful 4 page Info section, which also includes diagrams of the 25 paylines.
Don’t Beware of the Dog
Unlike others in the Age of Gods series, the paylines aren’t fixed. You can choose to play any number between 1 and 25. There’s also plenty of variety in the betting ranging from 0.25 to a cool 500.00.
The Auto Play doesn’t have as many options, with only 10, 25, 50 or 99 spins or up until the Bonus Feature, available. You can opt to skip the intro video, change volume on screen and remove sound effects if you like too, or even play more than one game at once.
You can also quicken the pace of the game by pressing Fast Play and using Turbo Mode. You’ll need to check the rulebook as it isn’t on the main screen, but Turbo Mode cuts out the celebratory wins to increase the game speed. As the winning movements are pretty low-key you may well want to use it.
There are 4 regular symbols that keep to the Greek theme, with an extra 5 of an Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10. It’s a pity there aren’t more symbols that keep to the Greek setting, even if the 5 are brightly coloured and make up 3 different values. While Cerberus, the 3-headed dog looks menacing he is worth the most so do look out for him. The RTP is 94.82%.
Extra Wild About the Bonuses
Hercules is on a mission! Hercules’ name is the Scatter, giving credit bonuses of up to 100 as well as up to 10 Free Games and a triple multiplier if you get 3 of them in a spin. During the Free Spins, 3 more of the Hercules symbols gives extra spins, as well as the Herculean Strength game. Hercules is also the Wildcard, substituting for everything except the Scatter and Bonus symbols. He’s only available on reels 2, 3 and 4 and getting all of them, or the expanding Wildcard on reel 3, generates the Bonus Feature of Herculean Strength.
On Herculean Strength, if you get a Wildcard on reel 3 it expands to cover all 3 slots in the middle, giving 2 respins and the Expanded Wildcard holding in place for that time. If you get the regular Wildcard on reels 2, 3 and 4 you’ll also get an Expanded Wildcard on reel 3, along with an extra respin.
The elongated Wildcard is also great visually, as it looks as though Hercules is trying to open the reels to get through the screen. On the Hydra Bonus, which you access if you get the symbol on reels 1 and 5, you fire 3 arrows at the 7 different heads for cash prizes. If successful with each shot, you can win 1, 2, 3, 5 or 8 times the total bet, with another arrow for an extra multiplier of 2, 3 or 5.
And we can’t forget the biggest bonus of all, the four progressive jackpots. There is no fixed symbol combination you need to get. In fact, you might even have lost on the hand that accesses it. Linked to the Age of Gods, you’ll win at least one of Power, Extra Power, Super Power or Ultimate Power even if you don’t match 3 correct symbols from 20 coins.
Strong Contender
While slot games themed on Hercules aren’t rare, this varied, exciting and high-rewarding slot game has plenty going for it. With its gameplay style and jackpots it makes full use of being in the Age of Gods series, while also having enough distinctions to enjoy it as an individual game. A true delight.
