The short period in between the two world wars was characterised by several social and cultural revolutions. The transition from ancient, Victorian values into the 20th century was finally completed, and jazz was playing in every corner.

Velvet Lounge tries to emulate this unique era, and the final result is a game of average volatility with simple rules and a shortcut to winning free respins. Let’s look at it in more details in our complete review.

Jazz Music and Classy Ambiance

Velvet Lounge is taking place in a high-end boudoir in an undisclosed location. This private club resonates with jazz music, with the reels standing in front of a large and highly decorated room. The red carpets and drapes cover everything, including the golden furniture and the frame of the reels themselves.

Add the classic Merkur command bar at the bottom and there you have Velvet Lounge. As far as slot games go, this particular one is betting on originality. The closest example you could find would be Jazz Time from RTP, and yet it would not translate the quiet and classy ambiance of Velvet Lounge. In a nutshell, players are in uncharted territory here, and the result is rather appealing. But let’s move on to discover more about the actual gameplay next.

Make Your First Moves on the Reels

Velvet Lounge keeps things easy for players by sticking to the usual Merkur gameplay, with the same command buttons as in all the other games from the developers. You have 5 reels and just 5 fixed paylines to deal with here, so start with the plus and minus buttons to choose your wager before you get started.

You can bet from 0.01 to 10 credits per line, thus allowing for a maximum total bet of 50 credits that you can reach with a single click on the bet max shortcut. You also have the possibility to play Velvet Lounge turn by turn or in autoplay mode. Note that winning combinations pay from both sides of the reel set, and not just from left to right as in most slot games.

The paytable of Velvet Lounge is filled with precious gems, from emeralds to sapphires and rubies. The most valuable icon is a beautiful brunette, whose combinations on the reels can be worth up to 100 times your line bet. Each win gives you access to the two usual double-up mini games, the gamble card and gamble ladder, which are both Merkur signature features.

Velvet Lounge has an RTP of 96.20% and an average volatility, so do not let the short number of paylines scare you away just yet.

Stay Focused and Win Some Respins

Velvet Lounge is not as generous as many other Merkur slot games when it comes to bonus features. Instead of introducing wilds and scatters onto the reels, the game has an ongoing respin feature that can be triggered at any time.

To win 3 free spins, you need to fill up 3 or more reels with the exact same symbol during the game. This can happen at any time and is not dependent on your scoring any winning combination at the same time. In the end, this simple and original trick could make up for the lack of specific bonus symbols in Velvet Lounge.

A Memorable, but Perhaps Short Visit

Velvet Lounge lacks many of the classic bonus features that slot game players are accustomed to, but it does make up for that fact with a classy and original atmosphere and a higher RTP than expected.

Your visit to the lounge will be memorable, but perhaps not enough so to warrant an extended stay. But if the gameplay left a strong impression with you, you can try and have the same experience with 5 Hot Dice, an EGT slot with high volatility for the risk-takers out there.
