Under the Rainbow is a video slot game designed by Merkur and inspired by classic Irish folklore. The pot of gold is never far in this modern slot machine, and everything on the screen was designed to give players a boost of luck and unlock some big wins in the process. If you are a fan of Merkur games and want to try something new and refreshing, with plenty of free spins at stake, check out our full review of Under the Rainbow before you place your first bet.

Green Is the New Black

Under the Rainbow is part of a popular slot game family that got inspired by everything Irish. The deep green background of the game is therefore not a big surprise. The game screen is decorated with lucky clovers and features the usual Merkur layout, with a small command bar at the bottom and plenty of space for the transparent reels in the centre.

Besides the reel symbols themselves, Under the Rainbow is far less detailed than other similar Irish slot games such as Luck O’ The Irish by Blueprint, for example. That being said, this leaves you more space to focus on the reels and the basic gameplay, which we will look at in our next section.

Follow the Leprechaun

Under the Rainbow is based on a set of 5 reels with 3 symbols on each and 10 paylines available at every spin. The plus and minus buttons on the command bar will help you activate the paylines that you wish to bet on, as well as choose a wager between 0.01 and 2 credits per line, making the maximum bet available equal to 20 credits in total.

The well-known bet max shortcut and autoplay game mode are available to spice up the game a little. Each win gives you access to the now famous gamble card and gamble ladder mini games.

The basic symbol menu in Under the Rainbow is quite generous, featuring both the classic card icons and some original Irish lucky charms and symbols. Stay put and try to spot combinations of clovers, green top hats, pots of gold and more, for a maximum reward worth 1,000 times your current line bet.

With an RTP of 96.01%, Under the Rainbow is in the slot game average. Coupled with a medium variance, players stand a good chance to score decent wins early in the game as well.

The Pot of Gold Is Never Far

If you look closely enough, you will soon realise that Under the Rainbow also has a decent offer of bonus features. It all starts with a classic wild card in the form of a smiling leprechaun.

The little fellow has the unique power to replace all the basic symbols on the reels to create some extra winning combinations. Leprechaun combinations are also the most valuable of Under the Rainbow, with a maximum reward climbing up to 2,000 times your current line bet.

The rainbow symbol is the last element on the list. As a scatter, it can pay up to x500 in any position and trigger 10 free games as long as at least 3 of them show up on the reels at the same time. As long as the free spins are running, extra wild leprechauns will be added onto the reels to increase your chances to hit an extra big win.

Unexpected Treasures from the Irish Countryside

Under the Rainbow is part of a popular family of slot game. Every player loves Irish folklore because of its obvious association with luck, gold and good beer. Under the Rainbow will certainly manage to attract many new players to its reels, especially when you factor in the generous free spin bonus and its extra wilds available.

If you cannot get enough luck of the Irish, you should try Irish Gold from Play N Go for a different, more old-school take on the popular theme. And if you enjoyed Under the Rainbow’s gameplay, Merkur’s Chinese Dragon will let you experience it all over again, this time while exploring Ancient China.
