Thought you’d played every slot game with an Ancient Egyptian theme? Think again! Great Adventure from EGT treads this well-trodden path for inspiration once again, but is it worth your time, effort and money?

This is your standard EGT title in every way imaginable. It features a familiar-looking gameboard with five reels and three rows supporting 25 paylines, plus the usual player controls running along the bottom of the screen.

And like many other EGT titles, it features eight main game symbols and a scatter, plus a free spins bonus round, a gamble feature and the Jackpot Cards game.

So far, so very familiar.

So is there anything here that helps Great Adventure stand out from the crowd?

Spin to Win

Let’s take a look at the main game prizes. The first four symbols of note are the playing cars, and these pay at varying rates on an ascending scale of importance. So three Jacks earn 10 coins, four earn 40 coins and five earn 100 coins (based on a 1 coin bet), while four Queens pays 10 coins, 50 coins and 100 coins respectively.

Thirdly there’s the King, which rewards intrepid adventurers with 30 coins for spinning a trio, 70 coins for a quadruple and 125 coins for a treble. And lastly, but by no means least, is the Ace in the pack, which earns 40 coins, 80 coins and 150 coins.

The next two game symbols will be familiar for players who enjoy all things Ancient Egypt (or have played one of the other countless games based on this theme). The Scarab Beetle and Tutankhamun pay 50 coins, 100 coins and 300 coins for matching three, four or five respectively.

And the last duo to take their place on the reels are the Male and Female Explorers. The Female looks ready for adventure, and is clearly in a good mood as she will reward players for matching of her on their reels (2 coins), with more lucrative prizes on offer for three (80 coins), four (150 coins) or five (500 coins). And the Male Explorer, who offers more than a passing resemblance to a young Harrison Ford from his Indiana Jones days, pays players 4 coins, 100 coins, 200 coins and a top prize of 1,000 coins for their troubles.

But there’s more to this adventure and that comes in the form of the Notebook, which acts as the game’s scatter symbol. Find three or more of this and you will earn a tidy sum (50 coins, 250 coins and 1,250 coins respectively), but perhaps more importantly you will unlock the Statue Feature, which is home to Great Adventure’s most sterling prizes.

Players will earn from three to ten freebies to use in this feature depending on the statue they select and some of the main game icons will be replaced in play as Wild Gold symbols. These wilds will substitute for all symbols within the free spins round apart from the scatter itself, and this can help to trigger some fantastic prizes. And remember, the Statue Feature can be re-triggered too; so your opportunities are astronomical.

Beastly Bonuses

Great Adventure might be set in an ancient civilisation, but the prizes are anything but old fashioned. You can gamble any winnings less than 875 coins for a chance to double up, and all you need to do is guess the colour of an upturned card; either red or black. Guess incorrectly though and you will lose your initial prize.

The last of the prize bonanza is Jackpot Cards, which is the unique “pick me” bonus round from EGT. Here you will be able to win one of the four jackpot prizes at the top of the screen that corresponds to the suits of playing cards. All you need to do is pick up three of the same suit from a field of 12 cards to be a winner.

There aren’t many randomly triggered bonus rounds that pay prizes as generous as these, and with no minimum bet required we have to give credit to EGT for allowing for such an opportunity.

And it is on that saving grace that Great Adventure hangs. There is little to promote this title over any of their others – the features and prizes are as generic as they come, but the prospect of the Jackpot Cards feature will surely whet the appetite of gamers with an eye for a big prize.
