The Red Empress Theme

The name might give this away, but The Red Empress as a game is very, very red. From the game itself to every bit of the cabinet that can be changed, you’ll know from a distance when you’re close to this one! The Empress herself takes on the same role of the White Wizard in his slot, acting primarily as one of the most valuable symbols in the game and coming in stacks to truly up those wins. She is joined by the typical playing card icons and a number of other highly detailed symbols that have clearly been inspired by Aristocrat’s extensive Asian themed slot back catalogue. The whole game is a visual treat, with the standard icons being joined by great sounds and animations, ensuring that this marks a major upgrade for the Reel Power series.

Gameplay and Prizes

It is fair to say that if you were brought up on older Reel Power games then The Red Empress may look a little complicated to start with. However, things soon get much simpler thanks to the way in which all of the gameplay is implemented. The title uses the same cabinet as all of the latest Aristocrat releases, so you’ll be familiar with the concept of adjusting your bets with the built in buttons. Both one cent and two cent modes are available, and you can modify your coin value to make for bigger stakes and of course bigger prizes. As the latest standalone game from the developer, there are no jackpots as such, although this is compensated for by the fact that all of the top symbols are particularly valuable compared to many other games.

Features and Bonuses

The features are what make The Red Empress truly outstanding and the best part is that they are all themed around the betting options. All of the traditional Reel Power additions are there, including wilds and scatters, although the latter in particular are unusual. You’ll be used to having to spin in three scatters in order to reach the bonus round, but here you’ll need eight. What makes this slightly easier than it sounds is the fact that the scatter icon can appear on any reel and in stacks of four. This means two full reels will launch the bonus round, or four on one reel, three on another and then a single scatter on a third reel will do the same thing. Even if they simply will not land correctly for you, there is still a shot at the bonus whenever a full stack of scatters lands on the fifth reel as they will launch a pick bonus. The five most important symbols in the game appear and you choose one in the hope of revealing the bonus icon. Do so, and the free games will launch as normal.

When you get to the free games through either method, you’re in for one of the most potentially lucrative bonus rounds ever seen and that’s all down to the way that the reels expand. The conventional five by four board is in play to begin with, but as you rack up the wins you’ll notice the board getting bigger until it reaches its maximum capacity of seven rows. The whole Reel Power system gets bigger with it, to the point that you’ll end up with over ten thousand ways to win on a spin – still with wilds, stacked symbols and more to help you along the way.

We’ve never seen Aristocrat release a bad game and they certainly don’t buck the trend with The Red Empress. We have a sneaking suspicion that it will be released online eventually, although nothing like that is ever for certain. Either way, until that day comes, we’re on hand to bring you the best online alternatives. Whether you want bigger bonuses, higher returns or simply some great reel based action with a similar theme, our online selections cover absolutely everything and you can check them out in full on our The Red Empress slot alternatives page here on the site.
