India is full of culture and history, and there have been plenty of games created which are based around this theme. It’s not as overdone as the ancient Egypt theme, but in essence, there’s probably at least one game from each of the big developers which is based around it. This offering from Novomatic, ‘Riches of India’, presents some nicely designed reels and game play, although it’s a part of the developer’s game catalogue which provides an actual machine layout, rather than just the product interface. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, and some players may prefer it this way, it does give a lot more of an older look to it. And, simply because they’ve included a set of tones that have nothing to do with India – or, generally, don’t relate to anything except a child going crazy with a 90s Yamaha – the game presents a more so lack lustre effect.

Do You See the Taj Mahal?

The layout of this game spreads across five reels and three rows, so Novomatic aren’t presenting anything out of the ordinary here. The icons incorporated onto the reels are, for the most part, very symbolic of India, so you’ll find the Taj Mahal, an Indian elephant, a rajah and a beautiful princess. However, we’re not really sure why there’s a snake charmer’s basket involved in the game. It comes across as catering to a little bit of a stereotype. Making up the remainder of the symbols on the reels are the regular A, J, K, Q and 10 icons.

Furthermore, the developer has added a total of nine separate pay lines into the game, although these can be customised with the relevant buttons at the bottom of the screen. These start from a single one, and increase up to three lines, five lines, seven and then the maximum of nine. In addition to this, the credit value can be changed from the minimum of $0.50 up to $1 and then $2. On top of this, you can also switch the bet you place per line around, with the minimum being one and the maximum being 100. Therefore, you’re able to place a maximum overall wager of $900 per round.

What Treasures Does Riches of India Contain?

There are a couple of special features included in the game, with the first one of these being the rajah symbol. This acts as the game’s wild symbol, and it will stand in for all other symbols on the reels in order to create a winning combination. If you’re wagering the maximum amount and have the full nine lines active, you have the possibility to win up to $500,000 from five showing up on a win line. The only symbol that this doesn’t substitute for is the scatter.

And speaking of the scatter icon, this is where the snake charmer’s basket comes in to play. These will pay out wherever they appear on the reels, with five showing up offering a pay out of 25 times your total wager placed. In addition, if three of them come into view, you’ll trigger a total of 15 freespins. And during the freespins round, should one of the rajah symbols appear, you’ll be rewarded with a bonus multiplier for the win of that round.

Finally, there is a gamble feature included in the game, which is one of Novomatic’s frequent additions. This presents you with the opportunity to increase your winnings by playing a small side game. If you choose to do so, then you’ll be provided with a new screen featuring a stack of playing cards. At first, these can be seen flashing, and you’ll have the choice of picking between red and black. You’re basically guessing the colour of the next card to be turned over, and once you’ve made your selection, if it’s correct, your winnings from the triggering round will be doubled. However, should you make an incorrect guess, you’ll find your winnings from that round will all disappear.

There’s little doubt that fans of online slots will understand what this game is influenced by. Being entitled as it is, is a pretty good give away. There’s also little doubt that Novomatic could have done a lot more with the game. However, what is available is a fairly standard slot offering with average special features.
