When a person makes reference to the Queen of Hearts, you almost instantly picture a playing card, right? Well, whether you do or don’t, you’ll no doubt be in agreement that the words are quite synonymous with several things. Take, for example, the character from the Lewis Carroll novel, ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’. However, the whole idea behind not only the character and the playing card, but the concept in general, has also been translated into an online video slot, thanks to Novomatic’s product of the same name. It’s unfortunate, as is so frequently the case with this developer’s games, that there hasn’t been a relevant soundtrack included with it. Instead, Novomatic have decided upon the lazy choice of their arcade-sounding tones to accompany the game.
Splendour and Grandeur
The interface of this game is generated by five separate reels and three rows, which provides all players with a regular, standard layout. Upon these reels, you’ll find icons of various different images, including one of the supposed queen, a yellow rose bud, a red heart, a very fairytale-looking castle, an ornately decorated crown and a ring with a jewelled flower on it. These icons are accompanied by the regular video slot symbols of K, Q, J, 10 and 9. The graphics in this game are not particularly stellar, although they’re easy enough to differentiate from one another. As far as animations go, they aren’t very creative in this area either, and instead provide a simple, but nonetheless effective characteristic to the product.
Novomatic have also chosen to add nine separate pay lines to the game alongside its reels and rows, and these pay lines are able to be customised as well, offering up all players the opportunity to wager on just a single one, three, five, seven or the maximum of nine. These can be selected by using the buttons at the bottom of the reels. Furthermore, you can change the credit value from $0.50 up to $1 and its maximum of $2. In addition, the amount of credits you wager per round begin from one and can be increased up to the maximum of 100 per round. This allows the maximum overall wager of $900 to be placed per spin.
The Queen Will See You Now!
The game doesn’t have a huge amount of special features included in it, but the ones it does have are decent enough to add a certain extra enhancement to it. This starts off with the icon of the queen, who provides it with its scatter symbol. At maximum wager, if five of these appear anywhere on the reels, you’ll be rewarded with a pay out of $360,000. In addition, three or more of these in view will also trigger the game’s freespins round. The amount of these which are provided depend upon the amount of scatters in view, with three providing eight, four providing 15, and five providing 20.
After each of the freespins, an icon of a cherub with a bow and arrow may appear. This has the ability to place random bonus heart symbols on the screen, and when the cherubs disappear, the hearts remain and all prizes are paid. Freespins may also be re-triggered during the round.
The heart icon is the game’s wild symbol, and this will work as such by substituting for all other symbols on the reels, except for the scatter. At maximum wager, if five of these show up on an active pay line, you’ll be rewarded with $1000000.
Finally, there’s a gamble feature included in the game as well, and this is triggered at the end of every winning combination formed in the main game. Should you choose to play this side game, you’ll be in with a chance of increasing your winnings. The game you have to play will provide you with a deck of face down playing cards, and you simply need to guess the colour of the next card to be turned over. Doing so correctly will double your winnings, while not managing to guess correctly will see them all lost.
In Summary of the Queen’s Law!
Accessing this game will present you with a decent enough game that sticks to its theme, at least visually. If you’re on the lookout for something with impressive graphics and animations, you’d probably be better off moving along to another, but if not, Queen of Hearts will definitely suffice.
