We enjoy playing online video slots that have an interesting theme behind them, although some of them do tend to make things a little more complex than they need to be. However, we also enjoy the games that are simpler, such as Pollen Nation from Microgaming. Not only does it have a wonderfully comical set of images integrated into its reels, which are based on the life of bees and their produce, but it also incorporates the sound of the insects buzzing around whenever you spin the reels. Perhaps this isn’t so good for those of you who are easily freaked out by things that buzz, but it very much adds to the ambience of the game. Now, we admit that a product which is based on the humble bee might not sound so compelling, but Pollen Nation is very much an exception to this misconception. It offers up high quality graphics and animations to its players, and in doing so presents a very entertaining game on the whole.

Buzz, Buzz

The interface of this game is presented to you on a five reel and three row layout. This is obviously a fairly standard display for such games, and its upon this layout that you’ll find the various different symbols. These start with five different products relating to honey, the first of these is a bees wax block, and this is joined by a breakfast cereal known as ‘Pollen Puffs’, followed by a third icon of a wrapped up honey comb. The final two products are a jar of honey with a dipper, and finally, some red royal jelly. These symbols are also joined by three bee characters, the first of which is a worker bee, bringing in nectar, wax and b-mail. Secondly, there’s a nurse bee, and finally, there’s one in the shape of a lifeguard to stop any bees drowning in honey.

As well as the reels, rows and icons, you’ll find that there are 25 separate pay lines included in the game. You do have the option of adjusting these to suit your own preferences, and this is done by using the ‘Select Lines’ button or by clicking on a number down one of the sides of the reels. You can also switch around the wager that you place per round, and this is done firstly by altering the value of a single coin between its minimum of $0.01 and $0.50. In addition, you are able to change the amount of coins that are wagered per line between one and 10. Therefore, you’re able to place a maximum overall wager of $250 per round.

Dripping Honey

There are a couple of different special features included within this game, starting with its wild icon. This is represented by the queen bee dressed in all her finery. As a wild, she will substitute for any other icon on the reels in order to form a winning combination, with the exceptions to this rule being scatters and bonus symbols. Should five of them appear on a winning bet line, you’ll receive a maximum pay out of 6,000 coins.

Furthermore, there is a scatter symbol which comes in the form of a bee on a flower. Scatter wins pay out wherever they show up on the reels, and they will multiply your wager placed by a different amount, depending upon how many scatters are shown. If five come in to view in any location, it will multiply your wager by 80 times.

The game has also had a bonus round incorporated into it, which is entitled ‘Babee Bonus’. This round is triggered when three, four or five of the baby bees show up in scattered locations on the reels. This round sees you presented with various different objects to reveal random bonus win amounts. Thirty honey cells are actually displayed and behind each one, you’ll find bonus wins. You will receive the total of all bonus win amounts revealed.
