Treasures of the Pyramids is a glossy video slot themed on the wonders of Ancient Egypt. If you’re at all familiar with the nature of modern casino games, you’ll know that developers love nothing more than to mine the past for inspiration. Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt, the Roman Empire – it’s all fair game in the interests of giving players a slot with a historical theme and a touch of the epic. Treasures of the Pyramids is a 5-reel slot with 40 pay-lines, and is IGT’s take on a well-worn theme.
The mascot of the game is a muscular panther, which sits among a pile of gold coins and rubies and is itself – somewhat improbably – rocking a gold necklace. Flanking the panther is a pair of pyramids, beyond which the setting sun looms. ‘Treasures of the Pyramid’, in bold gold lettering, shimmers overhead. If you’ve played a bunch of Egypt-themed games and you’re sick to the back teeth of scarabs and pyramids, no amount of coercion will compel you to give this one a try. If you aren’t yet tapped out, though, there’s every chance you’ll have a blast playing this enticing 5-reeler.
Setting the Stakes
Players hoping to take down the house firstly need to put some money in the game. You can place bets as small as 0.01 in Treasures of the Pyramid, although you can bet as many as 10 coins per pay-line: this means that the maximum you can stake is 400 coins. The maximum pay-out to be won, meanwhile, is 50,000.
Playing the Game
The aforementioned ‘front cover’ of the game, which features a panther sat on a pile of treasure, seems to indicate that the graphics will be… well… better than what they turn out to be. In truth, this is a very unsophisticated game from a visual standpoint.
The action plays out on blue reels and there’s not a whole lot going on to draw the eye. Below the reels themselves, you’ll find all the necessary information: coin denomination, credits/line, the bet max button and the number of lines you’ve opted to play. You can also find the pay table and AutoPlay buttons here.
Symbols include a ring, a golden eye, an eagle brooch inset with a gemstone, a panther wild and a couple of pyramids. There’s also a bunch of playing card symbols, from 10 through to Ace, which nonetheless pay reasonably well. Land five Kings or aces, for instance, and you’ll scoop 1,000. You’ll earn 750 for five Queens, Jacks or tens.
The aim, as always, is to land matching combinations. As stated, the pay-outs associated with the playing card symbols are quite substantial. You can naturally win a lot more by connecting better symbols, though. The panther is the highest-paying in the game: you’ll take home the 50,000 jackpot if you can hit five-in-a-row. Five pyramid scatters, meanwhile, pays 20,000.
Scatters and Wilds
The game’s scatter symbol is that of two pyramids bathed in sunlight. Refreshingly, the scatter pays big and also grants plenty of free spins. As well as winning 20,000, you’ll trigger 100 free spins for five symbols. Four symbols buys 10,000 and 15 free spins; 1,200 (plus eight free spins) comes your way if you hit three. If you only manage to hit two, you still get a prize – 400, to be exact. You won’t get any free spins, though.
The panther is the game’s wild and can replace all of the game’s symbols except the pyramids to help you form winning combos. Though you can win 50,000 for five of these, the pay-offs drop considerably thereafter: it’s 1,500 for four, 750 for three and 100 for two.
While there are no bonus games to speak of, the fact that the scatters grant pay-outs and free spins means there’s plenty of enjoyment to be extracted from this game. It’s easier to overlook the lack of a multiplier or bonus round in this instance.
Treasures of the Pyramids includes a ubiquitous gamble feature. Simply guess the colour of the card – red or black – to double your cash. You can quadruple your winnings by guessing the suit correctly.
Another Brick in the Wall
Treasures of the Pyramids is a strong addition to the canon, but let’s be honest, there’s an overabundance of Egypt-themed slot games on the market. Did we really need another? Hell no. Still, there are worse games you could spend your time on. If you’re not sick of Egypt slot games, spin the reels and see what falls your way.
