Naturally the creators at Ash Gaming Slots saw a way to capitalise on that fact, which has prompted the creation of Adventures in Wonderland, a video slots game featuring the eponymous book as its theme. At first impression the game boasts a fairy-tale like appearance, giving the game a whimsical sense of innocence and wonder. The game’s appearance certainly draws you in, so does its gameplay measure up in relation? 

Begin at the Beginning

Very little of the later Disney or Tim Burton-esque visual style can be seen here, in fact the game actually looks to have a graphical style more befitting a German fairy tale.

The ethereal-sounding background music compliments the art direction very well, as it conjures up the image of being lost in a magical forest far from home. The style of the scenery actually looks really beautiful, and I can’t think of a style more befitting the subject. The harp that plays when you spin the reels was a nice touch too.

From a functional standpoint, the game makes use a standard 5×3 reel setup and 20 paylines. Click the payline buttons on the sides to change the number of paylines in play. In an interesting twist, each payline number has a musical key assigned to it, and with a full chromatic scale presented, you might spent a lot of time trying to create musical motifs.

Through the Looking Glass

The menu is laid out in a very clean and functionalist manner, contrasting with the more sublime visual style of the game itself. The left-most buttons let you access the game’s sub-menu as well as the pay table. The middle buttons allow you to change the bet size (coin denominations range from 0.01 to 10); lines in play as well as opt to bet the maximum amount by default. The bottom-right button lets you spin the reels, and in the far corner there is the auto-spin button should you not wish to press the spin button time and time again. There are scatter and wild symbols in play.

Down the Rabbit Hole

This game provides a ridiculous number of opportunities to win prizes, including a progressive jackpot! In addition, there is a whole host of bonus games included. Where do we begin?

If you get three or more rabbit hole symbols you’ll trigger the Rabbit Hole bonus. Just like in the book, Alice falls down the rabbit hole, except here you pick up a whole assortment of prizes that increase your initial bet size by as much as 22 times over. Get three or more white rabbit symbols and you’ll get a whole bunch of free spins and an extra wild symbol – the only downside is that you can’t retrigger them.

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

Finally, there is the Mad Hatter game, and this is where you can actually win the jackpot. Get at least three Mad Hatter symbols on your active reels and you will begin the book’s famous tea party scene. You are given the option to choose from an assortment of symbols, and if you pick well you will be given more to select. The added time the characters take to drink tea means you’ll keep winning more money. If they add sugar to their tea before they drink, it means you’ll win the jackpot!

Being frank, this game seriously rocks. It’s absolutely packed to the brim with bonus features and incentives that give you the chance to win huge prices. In addition, the game has a progressive jackpot that is rarely seen in video slots games of this type. The visuals are impressive, the soundtrack is excellent (and doesn’t have that conspicuous skip that most poorly-looped tracks have), and the game gives you a lot of control over how large your spins are.

Perhaps the only downside about this game is that it only offers 20 paylines, but when you play this game for yourself you’ll quickly come to realise that the relatively low number is inconsequential given the quality of the game itself.
