Few games have spawned so many high quality spinoffs as Aristocrat’s legendary Queen of the Nile slot and one of the more interesting iterations comes in the form of the similarly named Love on the Nile. With both the King and Queen starring in their own games, it will come as little surprise to learn that there’s a little romance involved and the company have decided to devote an entire slot game to it. If you’re a fan of any of the other Nile slots on offer then this game will be a doddle to pick up and play as it uses new takes on familiar symbols and all of the essential gameplay of its predecessors. One thing that is different about Love on the Nile compared to Queen of the Nile is that there is no online version, although with Ancient Egypt being perhaps the most used slot theme of all time, there is plenty of choice of online alternatives – you can find out all about the best of the lot on our Love on the Nile alternatives page, which we’ll discuss in more detail later on in this review.
Love on the Nile Theme
We figured that Love on the Nile would involve both the Queen and King in some way and that’s certainly the case as they both make prominent appearances on the reels. They’re not the only familiar characters either, as scarab beetles, hieroglyphics and other Egyptian artefacts make their umpteenth appearances on the Aristocrat reels. Even the playing card icons make a triumphant return and while they’ll never change your life with their prize values, any wins are better than no wins!
Gameplay and Prizes
When Love on the Nile was released in 2011, Aristocrat was deep into their Reel Power phase and there was every chance that this could have become the first Egyptian themed slot to make use of the 243 ways to win betting system. However, the developer instead opted to stick to what fans of the series were used to with 25 win lines. This meant that anyone who had been involved in the series previously could carry over their favourite betting strategies without missing a beat. One feature that does reflect the relative youth of the game compared to its peers is the ante bet which we’ll cover properly in the section below. All we’ll say here is that when there is an ante bet available on an Aristocrat slot then the chances are that you’ll want to play it if you’re after the best possible value from the features.
Features and Bonuses
One area in which Love on the Nile definitely outdoes its predecessors is in the scope and breadth of the features. The core gameplay mechanic continues to be free spins, but they’re by no means a case of just sitting back and watching the wins pile up. Things start off simply enough, with three or more pyramid scatters in view offering fifteen free spins, or potentially more if you’ve been keeping your ante bet up. The real action starts within the round itself though, where more pyramids can unlock an additional feature. As the pyramids land, a meter at the side of the reels will fill up, awarding bonus wilds along the way. If you manage to fill it all the way to the top then King and Queen icons will be flung across the reels with reckless abandon, potentially covering the entire board. Every one that lands pays out a cash prize and these are clearly the biggest wins that you’re going to get on the game, and they’re very big indeed.
One day, we’ll be playing slots in a world where all of the great Nile themed slots from Aristocrat will be available for online play. For now, if you’re outside the blocked territories then you can make do with Queen of the Nile, but if you’re in Australia or another blocked country then you’ll need to look towards other developers. There are plenty of Ancient Egyptian themed slots out there and many draw inspiration from the gameplay too. You’ll find the best of the best on our Love on the Nile alternatives page, together with our choices for the best places to play in your country.
