It’s become inherently clear that Novomatic have an obsession with creating slot games that seem to be based around a specific theme, but then when it comes to playing the product, it’s fairly disappointing on the whole. ‘Wild Thing’ is one such game. Thematically, just from the name it’s been given, this invokes imagery of wild animals, or perhaps even wild and closed off tribes. Perhaps even wild dogs would come to mind. Unfortunately, the best that this developer seem to have come up with for this game is the regular fruit icons. Fair enough, they’re not the only symbols on the reels, but they do make up the vast majority, and while the product isn’t marred by Novomatic’s usual flaws of soundtrack and graphics, it still doesn’t really make up for the fact that there’s great potential for an interestingly themed game here, which they don’t seem to have actually integrated into it.
What’s It All About?
The game provides a smaller amount of reels than the standard online video slot, so you’ll get to spin through four of these, which are accompanied by three rows. This does provide one reel less than what is usually offered in video slots. On these reels, as mentioned, are several icons of fruit, akin to those found in traditional slot games. Therefore, you’ll have imagery of watermelons, oranges, plums and grapes incorporated onto the screen. In addition, icons of stars, 7s, bells and a symbol of what seems to be a wild woman accompany these. And while these are all designed and created in a graphically pleasing way, they do little to relate to the supposed theme.
In addition to its reels and rows, players also have a total of 10 separate pay lines to wager on. These are not able to be customised, so are fixed in position as they are. However, gamers do have the chance to change the bet they place per round, by utilising the plus and minus buttons at the bottom of the screen. This begins from its minimum of $0.40 and will increase up to its maximum level of $100. Therefore, you’re able to play a maximum wager of $100 per round. Not only that, but an ‘Autoplay’ feature has also been added to the game, allowing you to spin several consecutive times at the same bet level.
Anything Wild About The Special Features?
As many of Novomatic’s products will testify to, they don’t tend to have a vast selection of extras incorporated into them. Wild Thing doesn’t stray far from this path, instead providing minimal features. This begins with its wild icon, which is represented by the word, ‘WILD’. This will substitute for all other icons on the reels in order to form a winning combination, with the exception of the scatter. The most right reel of the set contains a cluster of three wilds, and if these do not substitute, the right reel will be held for a second chance.
In addition, the icon of the wild woman provides this game with its scatter icon. Three of these appearing on the reels in any location will reward you with 10 freespins, while four of them will offer up 20 freespins. During freespins, three wild icons are locked in place on the right most reel, and during the round, it will also substitute for scatter symbols. Further freespins can also be won during the round.
Finally, there is also a gamble feature included in the game. This provides you with the opportunity to increase your winnings by playing a side game. The round will be triggered at the end of every winning combination formed in the main game, and if you choose to play it, you’ll be taken to a new screen, which features a deck of playing cards. You simply need to guess what the colour of the next card to be turned over will be, red or black. A correct guess will see your winnings doubled, while an incorrect guess sees them all lost.
Is It Worth Going Wild Over?
The game itself is designed in a nice way, featuring rich graphics and animations, but thematically speaking, it’s just about wrecked. There isn’t really anything to bring it all together, and in essence, Novomatic have created just another fruit-based game with some increased design.
