Retro stylings are all around you when you take a spin on the 5-reels in Tiara. This vintage real cash slot is from the makers at Merkur, and so you can rest easy that you’re getting a quality game. Furthermore, due to its classic nature, you won’t have to wade your way through unnecessary details and overzealous designs; this is a basic slot, designed for easy enjoyment.
As you’ve probably come to expect from the company, the imagery employed is very conventional, with an array of fruits, stars and 7s seeing you into each winning combination. It might not be the most glamorous game we’ve had the pleasure of playing, but it gets the job done and puts us a step closer to getting wins of up to 3,000 coins.
Will this be the brand’s crowning moment, or will Tiara fall short of the last hurdle and come in as just another old school casino game?
Follow That Crown
We’re of course referring to the Wild on Reel Feature, which sounds like mayhem when actually it’s a doddle of an extra that provides quick but fulfilling rewards. The basis of feature is simple: three wild symbols will become stacked to cover a reel, when this happens a free spin will be awarded.
The stacked wilds will then move one reel to the left hand side of the grid, and will continue to do so until they’re out of sight.
Remember though, this will only happen if a series of wilds are in effect and not just a lonely symbol, which makes this a tough special to trigger; we never achieved it, which goes to show the level of challenge being presented to you.
Risk It
Merkur always knows how to cheer us up when their paytable is lacking, and that’s by including a gamble option, or in Tiara’s case, two options. Whichever one you choose to play, you’ll have several chances of increasing your cash prize, with an equal amount of chances to lose those wins in an instant.
We like that you never know what’s going to happen in these rounds, for it means we get a nice surprise when we’re used to only failures. That being said, the design of their gamble features could be changed up a little; we always see the same aesthetic, which makes the brand feel repetitive rather than exclusive and innovative. Still, can we grumble when as much as 140 credits can be gifted to us?
Low Pay-In
Another redeeming feature is how cheap it is to play with Merkur – they always have low betting thresholds, typically starting at between 0.05 or 0.10 credits; Tiara is the latter. Consequently, a lot more people can appreciate the spoils of this slot machine, though as always there’s a spanner in the works – you won’t get much for that initial bet.
If you’re looking to become a VIP, you’ll need to play the maximum bet. It’s only 20 credits, which is still on the cheap side for an online game, but not many of us will want to risk that much money, even more so considering the volatility.
No matter how you decide to go onwards, you can set your betting level one of two ways: use the maximum bet toggle and go straight to the top, or work your way through the figures with the (+) and (-) buttons.
Down and Out
Tiara isn’t all bad, but a lot of its features leave us less than satisfied – there’s just nothing to the 5-reels. We’ve been given a user-friendly interface, that’s easy to navigate, and then been refused any extras worthy of merit. It would be nice if we could say that this is the first time this has happened with Merkur, but when it comes to their traditional slots, they tend to leave you wanting.
This game is only worth your time if you’re a purist gamer, looking for a quick game, or are willing to embrace a challenge.
