Extra Wild works in much the same way as its companion slot game, Extra 10 Liner, in the sense that it’s not so proficient when it comes to graphics or specialities, but it manages to intrigue people in its own unique way. And when something is casually innovative in its field, rather than coming out all guns blazing with overwhelming graphics and confusing game play, it can make for an often times more appealing product to participate in. That’s why this game from Merkur is able to offer up a charming alternative to the regular video slots that have been published in recent years. It’s still nothing overly special in the music area either, instead choosing to integrate a relatively warped arcade tune every time a player spins the reels, but that can be overlooked on the basis of there being a mute button handy.
Go Wild, with Extra Wild!
The game itself is made up of five separate reels and three rows worth of a layout, which is fairly standard for video slots these days. On these reels, icons of bags of money, ruby rings, golden pocket watches and beautifully designed lockets can all be found alongside sparkling diamonds and stacks of coins. These symbols have all been well-designed and fit in well enough with the overall “lack of theme” that many products take on these days.
Players will find that there have been 10 different pay lines included in the product, none of which are customisable. However, the bet you are able to place per spin is changeable, being able to be switched up from its minimum of $0.10 through to $10.
While all of this may sound quite normal for a slot game, the place where Extra Wild exceeds is within its actual game play. Gamers are able to form winning combinations from anywhere on the reels, rather than just from left to right. So, while most games require you to have at least three of the same symbol appearing on an active pay line from leftmost reel and onwards, this one allows you to craft winning combinations of three from the second and third reels onwards. We’ve often been frustrated when playing other games and finding that reel one is providing us nothing but rubbish, but yet the central three reels are matching symbols up like crazy. Well, this game pushes all that to one side, which we think is a great addition.
Anything Else Extra Special?
It’s fairly obvious that a game which has been titled as ‘Extra Wild’ will feature an actual wild icon, and Merkur haven’t let us down on this front. The wild symbol in this product is represented by the huge safe, and this will stand in for all other symbols on the reels to create the highest win on a pay line. All winnings which incorporate a wild icon are multiplied by the amount shown on the safe door, and this can range from times two up to times seven. If the symbol makes an appearance, but doesn’t form a win, it pays out an amount equal to your wager placed.
The only other feature that is included in this game, which has become a staple of many products from this developer, is the gamble option. This is triggered at the end of every winning combination that is below $140, and offers up the chance to either gamble the funds in one of two different games, or to collect them as they are.
Choosing to gamble will allow you to select either the ‘Card Gamble’ game or the ‘Ladder Gamble’ game. The former one requires you to guess the colour of the next playing card that is turned over. Doing so successfully will double your winnings up to a maximum of $140. The latter presents you with a ladder of values, with a light flashing between two of these. One value is higher and the other is lower, and your goal is to stop the light on the higher one.
