Blazing Star will transport you to the sun, and that’s exactly what the title is referring to. It’s not a glimmering bit of light in the sky at night time, or a twinkle twinkle in a nursery rhyme. This one is actually up close and personal, and with this game, you can almost feel the heat of it burning through your screen. There really isn’t much that can be said about the backdrop design of the product, other than you’re presented with a large arc of the sun, which the reels are offered in front of. However, the icons that are offered on the reels don’t really have anything to do with stars, space or final frontiers. There is an incorporated soundtrack which plays every time you have a spin, although this is also a very generic piece of music, rather than anything remotely related to space.
Charred Fruit, Anyone?
The game provides players with a five reel layout, and alongside this, three rows worth of symbols have been included. These symbols, as mentioned, don’t really relate to the title of Blazing Star, in any way, and instead take on the role of classic fruit machine icons. Therefore, you’ll find wonderfully designed icons of grapes, plums, cherries, lemons, oranges and half watermelons all making an appearance. The only symbols that do have a connection with the theme and title of the game are the specialty ones, which we’ll get to shortly.
As well as the icons and reel layout, Merkur Gaming have also included five different pay lines to wager on. These are not customizable, although this is quite understandable considering five isn’t a very big amount when compared to other fruit machine games. You can alter the amount of the wager you place instead, though. This can be done by using the plus and minus buttons in the bottom right-hand corner. Therefore, you’re able to switch this from $0.05 up to its maximum of $10 per spin, rather than per pay line.
Fruity Bonus Features
If you’re able to get past the idea of fruit surviving as close to the sun as this game pertains to be, you’ll find that the product also has very little in terms of special features. Where wilds, scatters and freespins would usually be a given in most of today’s modern video slots, Blazing Star instead chooses to leave these out.
The main icon on the reels is the full image of the scorching hot sun, which doesn’t particularly have any special qualities, but instead pays out the biggest reward if you should spin a winning combination on one of the pay lines. If you should spin five of these, you’ll receive a massive reward of 10,000 coins added to your balance.
You’ll also find a gamble feature included in the game, which is one of its only redeeming qualities in the bonus features area. This particular extra is made available whenever a winning combination is created, and players have the option of either collecting or gambling their winnings. The ‘Gamble’ option allows you to select from one of two different games to gamble your winnings on.
The first of these is the card gamble game, which requires you to guess whether or not the next card turned over will be red or black in color. If you guess correctly, your winnings will be doubled. You then have the opportunity to gamble again and again until you reach the maximum level of $140, or until you choose to collect. The second gamble game is the ‘Ladder Gamble’, which provides a step ladder of money values. You simply need to press the gamble button when you think the flashing light is on the next value up. This continues likewise, until you press collect, or until you reach $140.
Don’t Stare Directly at the Sun!
It’s a shame when a developer has a great theme to work with, and instead of providing a well-rounded, intriguing product, they throw a few items together and market it. That’s how Blazing Star feels. There’s very little in the way of special features, and reels filled with fruit symbols when the game is based on a huge star is a little bit ludicrous. However, it’s not all negative. The icons have been designed in a nicely appealing way…
