Troll Hunters Slot Review

Well, Play ‘n Go have certainly thrown us all off with their Troll Hunters slot machine, because they normally tend to stick to simple 5 reel and 3 reel slot machines – not something as unique as this. Troll Hunters technically has no reel and no paylines – it’s a 5×5 grid where winning combinations are matched when three or more of the same symbol lay next to each other.

When the game launched, we instantly thought of Zelda – the little warrior character from retro video games. Your quest requires you to venture on a voyage to the top of the very tallest mountains in an undisclosed location, to hunt the troll, slay them and get as much money out of the machine as possible.

You can play from as little as 0.20 a spin up to a maximum of 40.00 to accumulate wins and hopefully clear the grid. If you can clear the tumbling grid in one fell swoop, you will trigger the jackpot of up to 40,000. Battle Lines

The main character of the game stands to the right of the reels, hair and dress blowing in the breeze and her silver sword buried into the snow. Snowflakes drift around your screen and the wind howls past your ears. The 5×5 grid of symbols is situated high up in a mountainous area with the multiplier grid to the left and your paytable to the lower of the screen. If you are unsure of any of the rules of the game, the paytable will give you a good insight into the game. Use the pre-set betting options on the control panel to set your desired bet.

Hunt the Features

To start with, the biggest jackpot is awarded when you clear the grid – but how do you clear it? Well, it’s simple – every win that is triggered within the grid will vanish and golden emblems will push the symbols down – this process repeats every time you hit a win. While the wins add up on the left in the multiplier meter – the grid will empty of its symbols. Now, you have to do this with a single spin – so the chances of being able to do that are pretty slim.

Before every spin, random column(s) will be highlighted with the words ‘Bonus’ – if you can clear the whole column of 5 symbols that lay in front of this bonus text, you’ll be awarded the bonus game.

During the bonus, you will be awarded free spins. Trigger five or more trolls to get up to 20 additional free spins.

Every win triggered on the grid will multiply in the panel to the left of the screen, so the more wins your trigger – the bigger the multiplier you’ll receive.

Our Thoughts

Kudos to Play ‘n Go – we weren’t expecting a slot machine that offers something completely different to the norm. Troll Hunters is a specialised slot machine thanks to its layout. We found the slot to be a medium to high variance, which means the wins won’t fall often on the reels and the bonus game is a tough one to get your hands on.

While playing, the bonus didn’t trigger for us sadly, and we were playing a good hour at maximum stakes. If you have a bankroll that can withstand losses, there’s a huge jackpot waiting to be discovered.
