Keep your fingers crossed and try to make sure that the gems land in the right positions while playing Gem Drop, a Play’n Go video slot game with classic looks but some surprisingly addictive bonus features as well. All you need to do is give it a try and see what lies behind the retro looks of this modern slot game.
With an overall medium variance, Gem Drop is giving everyone their chance to win big and play big as well, thanks to a very decent betting range. Spoiler alert: there are several bonus wheels ready to help you score the jackpot at any time. So without further ado, let’s see what Gem Drop has to offer in our full review of the game.
Shiny Diamonds
Gem Drop is using a very old-school style with a jewel theme, something that has been done many, many times on the slot game market in the past. With low-key, 1980s slot machine graphics, the game probably won’t strike the eye at first. The dark background features some purple geometric shapes that vaguely look like glass shards, but the reels and bulky command bar underneath them still take up most of the space available.
Retro slot games aficionados will fall in love with Gem Drop instantly, but for other players this game might be a little more of an acquired taste. Regardless of your experience on the market, Gem Drop is still worth a try – as we will try and demonstrate in the rest of our review.
Not a Minute to Waste
Gem Drop is a very simple game, with few settings to take care of at all. The arrow buttons will let you navigate the betting range, which goes from 0.10 to 50 credits per turn. Pick a wager and spin the reels manually or through the autoplay mode to put Gem Drop on autopilot for a while. Every win on the reels gives you access to two different gamble games, which can either double or triple your latest cash prize. Pick the right symbol that appears on the screen to do so, and repeat as many times as you dare.
Gem Drop gives everyone a chance to win thanks to its average volatility. As for the paytable, it obviously contains a large selection of colourful precious stone, plus classic casino icons such as 7s and gold bars. The top reward of the basic paytable is the equivalent of 300 times the value of your current wager.
Bonus Wheels and Extra Wilds
So far, Gem Drop feels like a very honest but standard slot game. With the diamond symbols, the Play’n Go developers have added a wild to the reels to spice things up and give you a chance to replace the basic symbols at will as you play. Bonus blocks that may fall onto the reels at any time can also turn into wilds instantly, and they will also award a free respin at the same time.
The golden rings are scatters in Gem Drop, ablet to pay up to 300 times your total bet when you are betting less than 0.10 credit per line. If you choose to take more risks than that, combinations of 3 to 5 rings will unlock several bonus wheel. Each of them can award the corresponding progressive jackpot, if it stops in the right position once you spin it.
Classic in Almost All Aspects
Gem Drop is overall a classic slot game, with very low-key graphics and no originality whatsoever in terms of game universe. The graphics might feel a little underwhelming as well, but this is part of the charm of these old-school slots for hard-core gamblers.
On the other hand, the winning possibilities in Gem Drop are more than decent. Three progressive jackpots are better than one, and in our experience decent cash prizes can pop up on your screen more than usual. So even if you are not used to playing old-school arcade slot games, Gem Drop might still be worth a try after all.
