Novomatic has gone old school with this slot machine, actually first released in 2015; don’t let its retro gameplay and looks fool you. It may be as pure as the driven snow, but it’s just as playful and thrilling as anything a modern video slot can throw at you.
This is one for all you purist, who have their sights set on nothing but the green of cash and the gold of coin, the sound of winning sweeter than any extravagant bonus round or free games. Most impressive though is its progressive jackpot surprise, making this a vintage slot machine with a contemporary twist. Who’d have thought it?
Seeing Double
As you’ve guessed from the name, Two Sevens is about… well, two sevens, an orange and a red. Although they’re the same number, they do different things and are related to two enormous jackpot prizes, sometimes reaching over €50,000,000!
The thing is, you have to navigate the fruit in the way to get to the glorious end, meaning that this is quite the volatile game, even despite the apparent player return rate of 94%.
Separating the Weak from the Strong
Even though you can’t physically manhandle the paytable, you can see the marked differences in the two groupings of icons: the fruits are the ones that are low hanging, easier to pick but less impressive. The 7s need no introduction and offer up large lumps of cash, even when only a handful are found.
The cherries are one of the most unique icons however, for they allow a match of two of a kind as well as the traditional three, four and five. That being said, the payout is hardly anything to get excited about – €0.10 is a win, but it’s not exactly about to make you stinking rich.
For users, the aim is to get all the 7s, but should you only find between three and four, you’ll still get winnings that are going into the thousands, and should you get five of them, 40% of the progressive kitty will be yours. Talk about generous.
Go On, Have a Gamble!
With a title as compact as Two Sevens, the risk is already high due to the lack of winlines, however that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take an additional plunge on occasion. The gamble feature is a great way of further increasing your funds, provided you have decent luck; keep guessing correctly and you can double your wins up to five times. Get it wrong and it all goes away.
A Fruit Explosion
This is definitely a game about 7s, but there’s still plenty of fruit to go around. Traditional iconography has been utilised to not only match the pure gameplay with the aesthetics, but to also continue on the sense of playing an old game. Older online activities tend to have less flamboyance and more niche designs, choosing to deliver exactly what you need, without unnecessary extras.
Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean your eyes won’t be in for a treat with Two Sevens, for the colour palette is a vivid affair of blues, reds, oranges, and greens. It’s not ‘pretty’ or well thought out, but it commands the page and sucks you in, which is just what you want when gaming: an immersive and entertaining experience.
The physical title of the activity gets a little lost among the background of grapes and oranges, but that isn’t too much of issue for the controls are clearly defined at the bottom of the page.
One for You, Two for Me
Two Sevens is speaking our language; it does everything a modern game should do, but in a way that is very much from a bygone age of gaming. It marries the two together to give an experience that has learnt the lessons of true vintage slots, but hasn’t been overwhelmed by the posturing of new games.
The betting range could be better, but as far as it goes, this is a low threshold for Novomatic. What is more, for saying it’s old school, the features are surprisingly decent. Yes, there’s no free spins or bonuses, but you don’t really need that when you have such large jackpots to play for.
