King of Cards Slot Review

What do you get when you merge the thrill and intensity of a card game with the excitement and wonder of a video slot? ‘King of Cards’ might just provide you with your answer. You see, there’s features of both types of games incorporated into this one, so it might just appeal to gamers of both. Unlike many other slot games, this one doesn’t have any specific background or introductory video package, or anything like that. Its theme is pretty much set on the whole merger of the two game genres, so it doesn’t really require anything other to enhance this. It does feature the same irksome Novomatic piece of music when the reels are spinning, which is enough to drive anyone crazy.

Playing Cards and Their Suits

As a standard enough slot game, the product features a layout of five reels and three rows, thereby giving players an ultimately well-known layout to spin the reels of. Upon these reels are various different icons, the main ones featuring the suits of playing cards – spades, clubs, hearts and diamonds. In addition, there’s a symbol which has a set of cards on it presenting a royal flush, as well as the standard A, J, K, Q, 10 and 9 icons. There are also one or two additional symbols which provide the game with its special features, which is something we’ll get to shortly.

As well as the visual imagery of the game, Novomatic have also added a total of nine different pay lines into the game as well. Players can choose how many of these they would like active at any time, simply by utilising the buttons at the bottom of the reels to change from one, to three, to five, to seven and finally, to the maximum nine. The credit value in King of Cards is set at $1, although the amount of these you wager per line is able to be changed before each spin. The range on offer begins at a single one and increases up to 100, therefore offering all players the chance to place a maximum wager of $900 per round.

While games that run in this vein, and that seem to be of the older type, don’t tend to have so many special features included in the, this one doesn’t do so bad in that area. There’s an icon of a jester, representing the joker card, which will substitute for all other icons, except for the scatter, to form a win. Should it be included in any winning combination, it will also double the pay out. Furthermore, if you’re placing a maximum wager and you spin five of them onto a winning pay line, you’ll receive a pay out of $900,000.

As mentioned, there is a scatter symbol included on the reels, which is represented by the poker chips. These pay out wherever they appear on the reels, and should you spin three or more, you’ll also activate the game’s freespins round. This provides a multiplier of times three for all pay outs, and you’ll be given an initial amount of 15.

Finally, should you manage to form winning combinations on the reels, you’ll also be made aware of the gamble feature that Novomatic adds to just about all of its products. This allows you the opportunity to either take your winnings at their current value, or play a side game to try and boost them a little more. Choosing to gamble will present you with a deck of cards, and the only thing required of you is to try and guess the colour of the next one to be turned over. Make the correct choice and your winnings will be doubled, but make the incorrect choice and you’ll see them disappear.

Does Merging Games Work?

To conclude this review, the idea of playing cards being merged with an online slot machine seems like a great one on paper. However, when it comes down to it, the execution by Novomatic isn’t altogether so amazing. The graphics are sub-standard and the inclusive music does nothing to help matters. It’s great that it has a couple of special features included, but overall, it leaves a little bit of a lack lustre feeling behind.
