It’s clear to see what Novomatic have gone for with this game. Obviously, they have some desire to keep pumping out games with little imagination behind them and so instead choose to stick to the same standard fruit icons. However, credit where credit is due with this one, they have upped the graphical content of Inferno and provided some sort of background (and we mean background) theme for it to be loosely based around. However, simply naming a game Inferno and placing what looks to be a very badly pixelated fire image behind the reels doesn’t cut it as being too creative in our book. It’s all fine and dandy in one case to try and bring a new sense of interest towards fruit-based games, because, after all, they are something from years gone by as a general theme. However, interest can’t be generated from such lack lustre additions.
Fruit, Fruit and More Fruit
The game itself provides five reels to players and adds three rows into that layout alongside. This won’t provide anything specifically new to regular slot gamers. What’s more, as mentioned, the game utilises fruit icons on its reels, so you’ll find plums, grapes, lemons, oranges, cherries and the like all appearing. While this may not be something new either, the icons in this game have been designed in a nice way, taking on a slightly more 3D role than what can be found in many other fruit-based games. In addition to the pieces of fruit, you’ll also find such symbols as golden stars and crowns included on the reels.
The developer has also added five separate pay lines into the game alongside the aforementioned rows and reels. These lines aren’t customisable. However, you can alter the bet that you place each round by using the plus and minus buttons at either side of the current amount. This ranges from its minimum of $0.40 and increases upwards towards $40 or so. In addition, there is an ‘Autoplay’ button added to the game, allowing players to spin several consecutive rounds at the same wager level.
Burning Hot Features?
The only real special icon that is featured within this game is that of the crown, which acts as the scatter symbol. Like all other scatters, it pays out regardless of where it appears on the reels. It can dramatically increase your balance if it appears in the right amount.
Apart from this symbol, the only other addition that Novomatic have seen fit to include in Inferno is its ever present gamble feature. This is triggered at the end of every winning combination you create within the game. Should it show up, you’ll be given the chance to either collect your winnings as they are or play a side game in order to try and increase them above and beyond. If you choose to go for the gamble option, you’ll be presented with the included side game.
This offers a deck of playing cards to you, which are face down. In order to play the game, you need to decide whether you believe the next card to be turned over will be red or black, just as playing cards are traditionally. Should you guess correctly, you’ll see your winnings double. You’re then able to have another guess to try and double them again, or collect them as they are. You can continue in this fashion until you either press the collect button, or until you lose a round. Be aware that whenever you lose a gamble round, you will see your winnings all disappear to a zero amount.
Hot Under the Collar
Inferno doesn’t really provide us with much faith in Novomatic’s games on the whole. It is, generally speaking, quite lack lustre in terms of the special features that are, or are not, in this case, included. Graphics-wise, there is little to fault, but the developer should know by now that they need to create games with everything wrapped up, rather than leaving areas of their products unattended to.
