If you were a fan of the Big Kahuna slot game from Microgaming, then you’ll certainly enjoy the sequel to it, which merges the original with the classic snakes & ladders board game. It’s still got the same laid back and intriguing atmosphere of the first product, but adds even more interesting features and specialities on top to make a well received and liked follow up. It’s clear that, like the first game, this sequel takes place in the middle of the jungle, as there are trees surrounding the reels, as well as vast mountains in the background alongside. It’s great that Microgaming have also incorporated a decent piece of soundtrack music as well, as they have slipped up in this particular area on more than one occasion. It’s graphically very nice to look at, and game play is smooth and easy to get the hang of. All in all, the game comes together in a compelling and positive way.
Keep the Board Game in Mind
As far as the layout of this game goes, it provides gamers with a five reel and three row interface, so it’s fairly standard in that respect. As far as the icons on the reels go, players will be able to spin through symbols of a few tropical fruits, such as pineapples, kiwis, watermelons and oranges, while the remaining icons are made up of some different animals. Included in these are smiling monkeys and odd looking lizards, while a tiki mask makes up another one. Finally, the two remaining symbols are those of the native man and woman. As mentioned, it’s a graphically sound product, presenting players with wonderfully designed symbols on the whole, which fit well in to the overall design of the game.
While there is a standard layout included in the game, there are various features of it which are not so regular. Players will be able to place wagers on various different pay lines, of which there are a total of 15. You do have the chance to customise these if you so wish to, and this is simply done by pressing the ‘Lines’ button. Further customisation can be done when it comes to the stake you place per spin. This is done firstly by changing the coin value around from its minimum of $0.01, and this will increase up to $0.25. The second part of the customisation is done via the ‘Coins’ button, and this can be altered up to 20 in total. This allows players to place a maximum overall wager of $75 per round.
Snakes & Ladders Aplenty
It’s the same with any game, but when it comes to Big Kahuna: Snakes & Ladders, it’s the special features which make it into such a popular product. These features begin with the game’s wild symbol, and this is represented by its logo. As a wild, it will stand in for all other icons on the reels in order to form a winning combination, with the exception of the snake symbol. Should five of these come in to view on a winning pay line, you’ll receive up to 5,000 coins in winnings.
The great thing about this game, and possible one of its best features, is the freespins which are included. There aren’t any special symbols to spin in order to receive them though, as they’re awarded randomly at any point during the game. You’ll be given a total of five freespins, and all winning combinations which are formed during this round are doubled. This means that you’ll have the opportunity to win up to 200,000 coins during this feature.
The snake icon is the game’s scatter symbol, and as such, it will offer up a pay out wherever it appears on the reels. However, there is also another function of this icon, as if you manage to spin three of them in any location on reels one, three and five, you’ll trigger the ‘Snakes & Ladders Bonus’ round. This requires you to begin your quest to retrieve Big Kahuna’s stolen mask. You do this by selecting a die to roll, and each of its five rolls progresses you along your journey up the mountain towards higher multipliers. Landing on a ladder during this round will allow you to climb higher up the mountain, but if you land on a snake, you’ll tumble right back to the bottom again. Rolling a six during this round provides you with an extra free roll, and these are played automatically. If you reach Big Kahuna’s mask, you complete the quest and receive the maximum prize of 100 times your bet placed.
A Board Game and a Slot Game Merged…Who Knew!?
On paper, merging a board game with a slot game shouldn’t be particularly exciting. I mean, as separate entities, maybe. But, you’d never imagine that combining the two would be so successful. As far as this game goes, it proves completely the opposite.
