Tokidoki Lucky Town is a 5-reel slot with 40 paylines and almost as many colours. Its saccharine theme includes unicorns, anime flourishes and copious shades of pink. There’s more to this game than having everything cranked up to 11 however. The animations for one thing are epic, especially when the Reel Reveal feature comes into play. It’s rare to encounter a slot that looks like nothing else out there, but Tokidoki Lucky Town is one such offering.
There’s not much in the way of a background behind the reels; the reels, constituting a standard 5×3 grid, pretty much dominate the screen. All that can be made out behind them is a collage of the primary symbols and characters, while at the bottom of the screen the controls are overlaid against a red brick wall. That allows all eyes to remain focused on the action that takes place within the reels, and there’s a lot of it; once those reels start to roll, the cuteness comes in waves.
Lucky Town
The big yellow button in the bottom centre of the screen is the one that will thrust you into the zany world of Lucky Town. Before you reach for it, take a moment to set the coin value that will dictate the amount you spend per spin. The game has 40 paylines which are always active, but the minimum you can pay ber bet is 60, with the coin value set at 1. That’s because there’s a surcharge of 20 for access to the feature. The maximum coin value is 10, meaning the most you’ll ever pay per spin is 600.
There’s a spanner icon on the bottom right of the screen which allows you to adjust the graphics quality and beside it an autoplay option, which can be set at between 10 and 50 spins. Controls for muting the audio and viewing the paytable, meanwhile, are tucked away in the top right of the screen.
Reel Reveal
Most of the gameplay in Tokidoki Lucky Town revolves around the Reel Reveal feature, but there are some exceptions. Take Stacked Wilds for instance, which sees the fourth reel loaded with 4 wilds, one after another. There are various scatter symbols to collect, which all tie in to Reel Reveal in some shape or form. These scatters have such names as Caramella, Truffle, Pogo and Moofia Milk Carton. The game has an RTP of 96.2% and its variance is classified as medium.
Features
Reel Reveal is what Tokidoki Lucky Town is all about. The feature is triggered by landing an arrow scatter symbol anywhere on reel 5. At this stage, the reels will all be shifted to the left by one, introducing a new reel and triggering a Reel Reveal spin. With each Reel Reveal spin, there’s an additional chance of triggering the feature again by landing an arrow on reel 5. Across the game’s 5 reels, there are different features that will appear as a consequence of Reel Reveal.
On Revealed Reel #1 it’s the Random Wild feature. On Revealed Reel #2 it’s the Random Multiplier feature. On #3 it’s Expanding Wild, on #4 it’s Moofia Blind Box Picker and on #5 it’s Symbol Upgrade feature. If these features seem a little confusing, you’re not alone. Tokidoki Lucky Town is one of these games that’s a lot harder to explain than it is to play. Give it a spin and it all starts to make a lot more sense.
Conclusion
Tokidoki Lucky Town is a true one-of-a-kind slot. Visually gorgeous and inventive, it provides a genuinely refreshing take on what seemed to be a tired genre and one where there was little scope for creativity. Lucky Town proves that it is still possible to innovate within the realms of 5-reel video slots.
It’s not the most obvious of games to get the hang of, but put in some playing time and the mysteries of Reel Reveal will soon start to manifest themselves.
