Fruit Bonanza is clearly an old-school slot game, with no specific theme to showcase at all. Instead, the entire game screen is painted in green, with a giant horn of plenty on top and various fruits stuck in between the reels.

With a metallic command bar at the bottom and a rather uninspired musical background, Fruit Bonanza was not designed to leave a strong first impression. Fruit Bonanza features 5 reels and 9 paylines, with the possibility to bet from 0.90 to 4.50 credits per turn only. This small betting range is a major drawback, if like us you like to play big and take some risks on the reels to unlock larger payouts. The coin value is also fixed, so the only thing you can do is activate paylines and choose a wager before spinning the reels, manually or with the autoplay game mode.

Fruit Bonanza is advertised as a medium-volatility slot game, but we found that scoring prizes was overall tougher than usual with this game. The paytable contains only fruits and lucky charms such as clovers and horseshoes, plus the classic casino symbols that are the bells and 7s. The maximum reward in the base game is 3,500 coins, which is a very interesting prize but still, tough to unlock.

A Little Last-Minute Help

The scatters in Fruit Bonanza are colourful disks, ready to trigger extra cash prizes wherever they land on the reels. Scatter prizes can be worth up to 400 times your total bet, if you are lucky.

The horn of plenty symbols are the rarest of the entire game. Regular combinations can be worth up to 5,000 credits, but if you play in max bet they will unlock one of the four Fruit Bonanza progressive jackpots instead. This is clearly the most interesting feature of the game, and the main reason why you should probably always play all-in.

Focus on the Jackpots Only

Fruit Bonanza is the archetype of the retro slot game with a modern makeover. The graphics are good and really pop on the screen, but there is nothing really exciting to follow here. Scoring wins on the reels is a little tough, and the super small betting range restricts your possibilities immensely – which we found particularly frustrating as we tested the game.

If you like old-school games, you would be better off trying out Gemstone Jackpot from Novomatic, which we thought really gave players a better chance at winning something. Spending too much time spinning the reels of Fruit Bonanza with no results to show for it can quickly become a little disheartening.
