Enter a world of fantasy in Novomatic’s take on The Lord of the Rings in the Kingdom of Legend slot. It is very unfortunate that there aren’t any LOTR slots out there besides WMS’ land-based version, seeing as Microgaming’s online version was completely removed and replaced with The Dark Knight slot and the sequel The Dark Knight Rises. So, for all those LOTR fans (like myself) this is the next best thing – and it’s pretty good if I may say so myself! The video slot is packed with brilliant features, great animations, TWO bonus wheels and some electric Wilds! There’s plenty of eye-candy in the game with the orc taking centre stage in the battle against dwarves, elves and men for Middle Earth.
Middle Earth and its Inhabitants
The online slot definitely has a real LOTR feel; the game is set in what looks like Middle Earth, at the bottom of a gorge with statues of great warriors on either side of the reels. It looks like time has taken its toll on the stone figures as one is missing a head. The reels are situated in a gold frame and give way to some great features; when the orc appears and takes you to the Bonus Wheel feature, a great fire fills your screen bearing a close resemblance to the Eye of Sauron from the epic trilogy. Even when the game is idle there’s something going on as birds and leaves fly across the reels. Furthermore, the Orc Bonus feature is graphically superb as well as thrilling! On the whole, it’s a quality game coupled with an epic soundtrack that really throws you into the battle against the orcs.
The slot doesn’t have a wide range of symbols; a female elf warrior is the game’s highest paying icon followed by a ranger and dwarf and low-value card symbols Ten through to Ace (the icons bring to mind Tauriel, Aragorn and Gimli). Five she-elf icons get you 500x your total bet. The wizard is the Wild and can replace all the symbols apart from the Scatter which is one of the game’s most interesting features. The Scatter is the Bonus Wheel which is much bigger compared to the other icons as they take up two positions on the reels and appear as halves on reels 1, 2, 4 and 5. Forming a whole wheel awards you with the Bonus Wheel. If you’re lucky enough to form both pairs of Bonus Wheel symbols in a single spin, you’ll be awarded two separate bonuses.
Volatile
It’s a medium to high volatility video slot with a 5×4 reel layout and 40 fixed pay-lines set by default. This is one for the high-rollers with a minimum total bet of 0.40 credits a spin and a maximum bet of 100.00 credits playable for free or for real money on desktop, mobile and tablet devices. The game allows you to see the changes in the pay-table as you adjust your bet. The RTP (what the slot pays back) is just above the average at 95.15%.
Orc Action
The Orc Bonus is a stellar feature which can be randomly triggered after a losing spin. The fearsome orc may jump in and award one of two things as he ferociously swipes his sword and cracks your screen; a bonus prize of up to 500x your total bet or a chance to spin the Bonus Wheel.
The Bonus Wheel feature takes you away from the reels to a massive wheel full of prizes to boost your bankroll! Here you can win up to 10 free spins, a cash multiplier up to 30x your stake, or a turn on the Super Wheel with a maximum win of a huge 1000x your bet. The best thing is that you can keep spinning the wheel until you stop on ‘Collect’. During the free spins round, you are taken back to the reels where wizard Wilds become Lightning Wilds and nudge neighbouring symbols turning them Wild in the process. Your eyes will light up watching the reels go Wild! If you’re lucky enough to win a super spin, then you are taken to the Super Wheel, another wheel with nothing but multipliers as prizes – you cannot lose with the Super Spin feature – and after your super spin, you are taken back to the Bonus Wheel for another go. Basically, nothing bad can come out of the two wheels in this graphically sensational slot.
As is the typical Novomatic, the free and real money slot even has a gamble feature wherein you stand the chance of doubling your winnings or walking away with nothing. All you have to do is guess the colour of the next Ace in the sequence of playing cards before you.
Top notch game!
Novomatic has really hit the mark with this fantastic fantasy video slot. It plays well, sounds good and looks great! I’m very glad that they reframed from using their same old same old dings and bells sound as the soundtrack. I think it will have the backing of many a player, LOTR fans and high-rollers alike. If you’re loving the theme, Real Time Gaming’s Orc vs Elf is just as good. And if you’re not a LOTR buff, another fantasy themed slot which really takes the cake is the latest instalment in the Dungeons and Dragons series, Treasures of Icewind Dale.
