Those of you who enjoy completely wacky and fun games will be besotted with this product from Novomatic. Especially if you’re a fan of the American Southwest as well. Bringing forth a game based on the armadillo is a quirky move in itself, but incorporating the sound of country and western tones into the product takes it one step further. If you’re unfamiliar with the armadillo, it’s a mammal which has a leathery armour shell, and all extant species can be found primarily in South America. This developer doesn’t tend to do humorous games on such a prolific level, so it’s always nice to see something that’s a little wilder than the norm. And you’ll quickly discover from playing Armadillo Artie that it is possible to take two themes (animals and Western topics), merge them into one and create a great game at the end of it all.
Meet Artie and His Friends
Any game which features an animal as the basis by which it was created should have more than one single creature on its reels. This is something that this game does wonderfully, providing not only an armadillo, but a rattlesnake, a roadrunner and a gerbil as companions for the title character. These all appear as icons on the reels, with additional symbols being made up of a cactus, the skull of a buffalo and the regular A, J, K, and Q imagery that graces many other video slots. Furthermore, every time you spin the reels, the country theme comes into play with a round of banjo music playing you along. It’s a completely crazy ditty, but very apt for the game in motion.
There are five reels and three rows creating the layout here, and Novomatic have incorporated a total of 25 pay lines alongside. These aren’t customisable, despite there being a plus and minus button above and below the number 25. Instead, players can alter the amount of the bet they place, which ranges from the minimum of $0.01 and goes up to the maximum of $10 per pay line. Therefore, all players can wager a maximum amount of $250 per spin. Advanced ‘Autoplay’ settings can also be tampered with to suit your preferences, should this be something you utilise often.
Country Roads, Take Me Home…
It’s not just the icons and standard game play that make this one interesting through. It’s the addition of the special features, and this begins with the wild icon, which in this game is represented by Artie himself. He will stand in for all other icons, except scatters and bonus symbols, in order to make a winning combination. However, that’s not his only trait, as he’s also an expanding wild. Ho won’t expand vertically though, instead choosing to go in a horizontal direction, turning any icon to his right into a wild.
The free games icon, represented by the sheriff’s badge, activates a round of freespins if you’re able to spin three scattered anywhere on reels two, three and four. Players are rewarded with 10 freespins of the reels, and not only that, but wins pay left to right and right to left. The expanding wild feature is also available during this round.
Finally, whenever you’re playing freespins, you’ll also have the opportunity to access a bonus game alongside. The bonus icon is represented by the bowling ball smashing some pins over, and if you manage to spin two or more of these on reels two, three or four, you’ll activate the ‘Bowling Bonus’. This awards three frames to you, with each frame consisting of a single roll. You need to select one of the arrows, either left, centre or right, and after the completion of the three rolls, your total score will be multiplied by total play. The maximum win here is 30 times the total play, i.e. three strikes.
Humour and Fun Make for a Promising Product
It’s true that many people will enjoy playing a game which is filled with fun and excitement, and with a new theme alongside. Armadillo Artie ticks all of those boxes and offers up a wonderful product, filled with great graphics, apt soundtrack and perfect bonus features. All in all, it’s a good game to play and will leave you wanting for more.
