Sci-fi is, of course, a very popular genre across all forms of media, from movies through to comics, and TV shows through to video games. What on Earth, presented by Microgaming, takes this base theme and provides players with a wonderfully crafted game, featuring high quality graphics and animations as well as some intriguing special features to go alongside. As soon as you load the game up, you’ll be presented with the background noises of an oncoming battle. Then, when you spin the reels, you’ll hear the sounds of bleeping buttons and generic UFO noises overtaking the game, which will, of course, add to the game’s atmosphere. And not only does this game have a modern sort of interface, providing gamers with various different symbols relating to the overall theme, but it also brings in a hint of the classical slot machines by providing certain forms of fruit icons as well. But, a little more on those shortly. What we can tell you from our first thoughts of loading What on Earth up is that we were quite impressed visually and were very eager to play it.
Aliens are on the Hunt
The layout of this game is presented on a five reel and three row display, so you should be quite aware of the familiarity of it all. It’s upon this interface that you’ll find the various different aforementioned icons, starting with the fruit-based symbols. Each of these has been warped in some way by an alien craft, starting with the cherry and orange, both of which are surrounded by flames. There’s also the plum which has a Saturn-like ring around it, and the watermelon with three surrounding pink moons. In addition, there are three other icons – one of them is a green asteroid, an alien craft’s control board, and finally, the shot of the alien peering through the porthole.
Alongside the reels, rows and symbols, you’ll find that the software developer has also incorporated a total of nine different bet lines, and these can be customised to suit your own preferences. This is done either by clicking on one of the numbers down either side of the reels, or by using the ‘Select Lines’ button instead. Further to this, all players can change around the bet they place per spin. Doing this is simple, as a single coin is worth $0.01. This can be increased up to $1, and the amount of these that can be wagered per active line can be switched between one and five, giving you the chance of placing a maximum overall bet of $45 per round.
Evade the Invasion
A game such as this one should definitely have some compelling special features involved within, and this one definitely has these to keep you entertained. The first of these is its wild icon, which is represented by the game’s logo. As a wild, this will stand in for the two higher paying icons on the reels – those being the alien behind the porthole and the spacecraft control panel. Should five of these show up on a winning pay line, you’ll be rewarded with a maximum pay out of 7,500 coins.
Scatter icons have also been incorporated into game play, and there are three of these. They’re all in the form of alien crafts, a blue one, a green one and a red one. Of course, these pay out wherever they show up on the layout, and adjacent scatter wins are added to pay line wins. These multiply your wager staked by a specific amount, with five of the red rocket ship providing a multiplier of times 100.
There’s also the addition of the ‘Beat ‘Em Up’ bonus round, and this is triggered whenever three, four or five red rockets show up in scatter locations of adjacent reels, or when three blue ships or three green ships show up scattered. This bonus round allows you the chance to win up to a 200 times multiplier by choosing objects to reveal random values. This round can lead to further bonus games.
Beat Them Back
This game is a really nice sci-fi offering, and it takes the theme and really runs with it. We enjoy the great graphics and intriguing special features, as well as the inclusive sountrack.
