Before you actually saw the game I bet you were wondering just what ‘Wasabi San’ was going to be about. Could it be that new masked wrestler from Japan or some overseas resort you’ve never heard of. Well you’d be wrong on both counts as this is actually a game about sushi. Yes, sushi and a rather saucy one. No not in that way, you see Wasabi San is the very hot sauce that’s added to dishes, isn’t Wikipedia wonderful.

This is another impressive slot release from Microgaming and it has five reels, three rows of symbols and a total of 15 pay-lines. A Saucy Game

To fit in perfectly with the theme the reels are set inside a bamboo frame. Perfect for the Japanese restaurant setting that the game has. The symbols are all theme-related which is always a big plus in my opinion. There are a number of tasty looking dishes with fish, vegetables and rice. There are also male and female character symbols and a bonsai tree. It seems all Japanese related game have to contain a bonsai tree.

Green with Envy

The wild symbol really is the most important one in this game and it’s the green Japanese chef you need to keep an eye out for.  Don’t ask me why he’s green, hope it’s not the food that’s caused it. He’s really handy though as the wild substitutes for other symbols to help get you some winning combinations. Not the two bonus symbols though, that’d make triggering the bonuses far too easy. Getting five of the wild symbols on an active pay-line is really profitable earning you 7500x your coin stake.

An added bonus in this game is the fact you get paid when there’s more than one wild on an active payline. Two for example will pay you 2x your line stake and four a tasty 50x. This doesn’t happen in many games so make the most of it here.

Look through the paytable before putting some real cash into this game. It’s packed with lots of information such as how much each winning combination is worth. Pop Down the Fish Market

The scatter symbol in this game is the Wasabi-San game logo. If you can get at least three of these anywhere on the reels then that awards you some free spins. The fact they can appear anywhere on the reels to count means you can get the free spins with just one pay-line activated if you so wish. You’ll definitely want to trigger the free spins round because any wins you get will be tripled and it’s possible to re-trigger the free spins.

There’s also the Fish Market Bonus and to get into this you require three or more of the deadly puffer fish bonus symbols. When this is triggered (and that can be done during the free spins round too) the fish suddenly begins to swell up and we head off into the direction of the fish market. This is a pick ’em game and the simple task is to choose three of the stallholder’s fish to reveal some cash wins.

Final Portion

There aren’t that many slot games that have a sushi theme, perhaps it’s a subject that is getting a raw deal. The game has a good look to it and the soundtrack is suitably oriental. There are some decent wins available too particularly in the free spins round. Definitely recommended.
