Who wants to come and play in candyland? It’s a childhood dream that adults can now relive thanks to the provision of games such as Sugar Parade by Microgaming. They’re by no means the first developer to have released a Candy Crush-style slot; in fact it’s hard to think of a major developer who haven’t. There are so many of these games doing the rounds and yet they don’t feel jaded and derivative as is the case with, say, Egyptian slots. That’s because in most cases these candy-based games have much more distinctive characters to them and bold colours that give them real flair and personality.
Microgaming’s Sugar Parade video slot is the perfect case in point. This is a bold and colourful slot, one which crams a surprising amount of detail into its 15 paylines. The reels are framed in candy canes, which is almost obligatory for games of this nature. In the background meanwhile there’s all manner of sugar-coated mountains and ice cream-filled valleys to take in, rendered in soft turquoise pastel shades. On the board itself, a combination of playing card values and animated candy provides the entertainment and your pathway to winning a big bunch of coins.
Sugar and Spice
Microgaming allow you to set a coin size of between 0.01 and 5 across the game’s 15 paylines. In other words, you can set a max bet of 75 coins per spin. It’s not a lot though, for a game with such a relatively low number of paylines this is to be expected. The jackpot stands at 8,000 coins and the slot comes with a Bet Max button and an autospin option. With the potential to win up to 20 free spins, Sugar Parade certainly isn’t stingy when it comes to the payouts. Thanks to the gorgeously designed symbols and the brace of bonus games in store if you include free spins, there are numerous reasons why the free Sugar Parade slot warrants taking a closer look.
Action Stations
The action takes place on a standard 5×3 board and is accompanied by sound effects that are every bit as cartoon-like as the visuals for this game. This mobile-compatible slot provides a couple of ways to win major sums of money, starting with Royal Bonus. This is a feature that’s triggered when you land at least 3 bonus symbols on a line, starting on the first reel. The more bonus symbols you line up, the more selectors you’ll be given in the bonus game, each of which commands a cash prize. If you don’t succeed in triggering the Royal Bonus, perhaps you’ll fare better with free spins.
You need 3 scatters anywhere on the board to activate this feature, which comes with a 3x multiplier for all wins. By default you’ll be awarded 10 free spins but because this feature can be retriggered, it’s possible to win as much as 20 free spins. While some punters will lament the fact that there’s not more to this game in terms of expanded wilds or stacked symbols, it’s worth stating that there’s still enough going on here to keep the average player entertained. For a 15 payline game at least, Sugar Parade provides plenty of bang for your buck.
Think Candy Crush
There are loads of other Candy Crush-themed slots on the market so if you’ve enjoyed this game, don’t stop here. There’s plenty more where that came from. Sugar Pop is one such example, a Betsoft game that has medium volatility and symbols which drop into view rather than relying on spinning reels. In comparison, Sugar Parade has low to medium variance, so it’s a game in which it’s relatively easy to pick up smaller wins as you go. Candyland Cash and Candyland are another two slots worth checking out. Candyland is possibly the best of the two, a 1×2 Gaming release with 9 paylines.
Sugary Sweet Treat
Sugar Parade is a game that’s easy to get into and a lot harder to stop playing. If you choose to simply play for fun, there’s plenty of enjoyment to be derived from this simple, colourful slot. Play for real money however and you open the door to the possibility of the 8,000-coin jackpot, one which more than atones for the low bet level that this game features, even with the max bet set. It’s not a classic, but Sugar Parade is nevertheless a fine release from Microgaming which shows just how creative they can be when they put their minds to it.
