Halloween, also known as All Hallows’ Eve or All Saints’ Eve, is probably the second largest holiday celebration of the year (after Christmas). It’s known around the world, as it’s observed in a number of different countries on 31 October. Of course, today, we know the celebration of the day as being a chance for kids (and adults) to dress up in their favourite scary costumes, with various monsters and supernatural beings often on display. People will usually throw parties, and children visit their neighbours’ houses on trick or treating journeys in order to bag themselves candy. It’s with this base theme in mind that Microgaming have created the Halloweenies online video slot. This one is filled with a vast amount of vibrant colours, and all of its icons are relative to the incorporated theme. Your game play is backed by the sound of bats and other night creatures making noises, while the distant sound of footsteps give off a very eerie atmosphere to it. Not only that, but whenever you form a win, you’ll be greeted with the sound of ghosts and ghouls haunting the area.
Scary Souls in Distress
Whenever you play this video slot game, you’ll be presented with an interface of five reels and three rows. Of course, this is a fairly regular layout when it comes to such products, and it’s upon these reels that you’re able to see the different icons of the game. These start with five different icons of various choices of candy. The first of these is a choice of candies in the shape of gravestones and hearts, while the second one depicts fruit gums. The third candy icon provides players with imagery of gummy snakes, while the fourth looks very much like Liquorice Allsorts. There’s also a selection of chocolate treats as the fifth icon. The four other standard symbols are represented by different monsters, such as the green zombie, the vicious looking werewolf, and the scary witch.
The developer has also included a total of 20 separate pay lines into the game, and you can customise these by clicking on one of the numbers down the left and right hand sides of the reels. Alternatively, you can press the ‘Select Lines’ button to change these. Further customisation comes in relation to the wager you’re able to place per round, and this is able to be changed in the first instance by altering the value of a single coin. There’s a range of between $0.01 and $0.50 available to choose from, while the amount of coins you’re able to play per active bet line can be changed between one and five. Should you have these features pushed up to their highest levels, you’ll be placing a maximum overall wager of $50 per round.
Don’t Take Too Much Candy!
When it comes to special features, Halloweenies provides its players with a few different ones of these, starting with the wild icon. This particular icon is represented by a selection of creepy and ghoulish monsters, and as a wild symbol, it will substitute for all other icons on the reels, except scatters and bonus icons. Should you spin five of them on to the reels on a winning pay lines, you’ll be given a maximum pay out of 13,000 coins.
Joining this symbol is the scatter, and this is provided by the image of the pink bunny. You’ll need to spin at least three of these on to the reels in any location in order to trigger the special feature of this icon. Three, four or five scatters will provide you with a total of 13 freespins, and all wins formed during the freespins round will be tripled, except for bonus wins. If you spin five of the scatters onto the reels in any location, your total wager placed will be multiplied by 100.
Finally, there’s a bonus icon included in the game as well, and this is represented by the evil looking pumpkin. Three, four or five of these showing up in scattered locations on the reels will trigger the ‘Pick a Pumpkin Bonus’ round. Here, you’ll be able to win up to 5,300 coins, and this is done by picking from the 13 pumpkins shown on screen. The number of scatters triggering the round provide you with your total picks.
Ghouls and Ghosts Aplenty
While Halloweenies offers up a decently visually pleasing product, its special features are what make it a great game on the whole.
