Cars can give you speed. They can give you style. They can give you flair. And they can give you thrills. And that’s exactly what you’ll get when you play the 5 Reel Drive slot from Microgaming. It takes you straight to the side of the racing track, where you’ll get a great view of the ongoing race. The graphics in this one aren’t especially overwhelming, but they do provide a decent enough set of images for the game. It’s a little unfortunate that the inclusive soundtrack doesn’t really have anything to do with cars or racing, and instead, the developer has chosen to add a mere arcade set of tones into the product. The game in itself though is presented on a relevantly simple layout, so participating in a few rounds is easy enough to do. And, despite the terrible soundtrack, everything else that has been included is very much appropriate for the game, including icons, special features and more.
Riding the Wheels!
As mentioned, it’s a decent layout for players to spin a few round on, offering up five separate reels and three rows. These reels are very clearly able to be seen, separated by thick blue lines. Upon these reels, you’ll find various symbols relevant to the driving theme. Of course, whenever you hit the race track, you’ll need to keep yourself full of energy with some snacks, and some of the icons are based on different foods. So, you’ll find icons of burgers, blueberry pie, fries, a drink and ketchup, coffee and a do-nut. And what can you also expect to find in some funky cars? Furry dice, of course. And you’ll definitely find these as an icon as well. In addition, there are three different racers – the smoking truck driver, the glamorous pink-dressed lady, and the yellow cab-driver. A couple of other symbols exist as specialities as well.
As well as its five reels and three rows, this game also includes a total of nine different pay lines. If you have a preference for customising this particular section of a game, you can do so with the ‘Select Lines’ button. Furthermore, you’ll be able to alter the wager you place per spin as well, which can be done by utilising the plus and minus buttons to the bottom left of the screen. This starts from the minimum level of $2.25 and will then increase up to a maximum level of $18, giving you your maximum overall wager.
Speciality Pay Outs
Microgaming tend to have some intriguing specials in their games, and 5 Reel Drive is no exception. This begins with its wild icon, which is represented by the yellow road sign. This will substitute for all other icons on the reels in order to form a winning combination, with the exception of the scatter symbol. This is joined by the highest paying symbol in the game, represented by the tyre on fire. Should five of these make an appearance on a winning pay line, you’ll receive a maximum pay out of $10,000.
Further to this, there’s a scatter symbol, which is represented by the police car. Scatters will pay out wherever they appear, and these are added to standard pay line wins. However, while many games tend to provide freespins when it comes to the scatter icons included within, this one does not. Instead, it simply multiplies your wager placed by a maximum of times 20 for five coming in to view.
There’s nothing else added to 5 Reel Drive apart from these two extras, but all in all, it’s a decent enough product. It would certainly benefit from some freespins or other bonus rounds, but on the whole, the two special symbols included do add a little bit of pizazz to the product.
Crossing the Finish Line
It’s true that this game does not have an overwhelming amount of additional features included, but then, it begs the question of whether or not it needs them. We think not, as it’s very thematically relevant and provides a nice, simple game to play.
