Well that’s what people have been dreaming of. And here you get the chance to play around in that underwater heaven and try and win money while you do. King of Atlantis by GameArt doesn’t play by the traditional rules. There are no Scatters, Bonus Games or Progressive Jackpots. Instead there are Gigantic Wilds, Free Spins and a prize of up to 25 million credits.
King Of The (Underwater) World
It begins with the King himself, Poseidon, in a short loading page. He’s muscular and manly, with a windswept beard. Though he’s the title of the game and crucial to the gameplay, he doesn’t dominate the background imagery in the main screen. Instead, that’s left to the Atlantis world itself. The 5 reels and 25 symbols don’t stand out at all. Instead, the golden coins and rays of light from above jump out from the background.
It would seem easier to have the betting options together, but rather unusually, the buttons are split into two separate areas. On the top left are the Betting per Line with drop down options, along with betting information. At the bottom are the rest of the options, with the buttons neatly coloured with purple and blue tints.
You Should Sea The Mermaid
If you like a game of high stakes and high prizes, this game will be for you. The betting lines are fixed at 40, making your choice of betting amount even more crucial. While some games play for tiny stakes, here the minimum is 90.00, while the max total bet is a whopping 180,000. You can take the sound off, and more usefully you can change the speed up to Turbo. As there are no automatic options, you’ll appreciate the increased spinning speed.
The total bet, by the way, is shown at the bottom of the screen is a scroll up option. All the information about how much you are betting and how much you are winning on each spin is shown at the top. While the beauty of the hidden underwater world is evident throughout the game, the most valuable symbol doesn’t attach with that. Rather than a lyre, relic urn or a crown, the most useful image is the pretty mermaid. There are only 6 regular symbols, far fewer than most games. The very neat 5 page Paytable also includes information of the bonuses, diagrams of the 40 paylines and the payout rate of up to 96.14%.
A Poseidon Adventure
The Wildcard, a big part of the game, is our Poseidon friend. He doesn’t offer any credits but replaces everything except the Bonus symbol. The symbol appears on reels 2 and 4 but each also expand one reel to the right. The Gigantic Wilds are so special you have 3 options. You can choose either 20, 40 or 60, with the higher Wilds costing more credit but giving bigger rewards.
Though the game could benefit with a Scatter or a Bonus Game, there are Free Spins available. If you get the trident Bonus symbol, which appears on the first reel, along with the Poseidon card, you get 8 Free Spins. As you can’t retrigger them, it means you can’t extend them, but as they stay in place during the spins they are very valuable.
Atlantis Delights
Atlantis may be the hidden world, but there are other slot games about. King of Atlantis does stand out though, from games such as Queen of Atlantis, Lost Secrets of Atlantis and Jewels of Atlantis. While it retains the sense of mystery and of marine life that they do, it focuses more on the Wildcard, and offers far bigger prizes.
Atlantis Conclusion
There’s plenty to like here. There may be no Bonus Games, Scatters or Gamble Feature, but when you can win such big amounts, why make things complicated? The lack of Autoplay could be looked at, though with such large amounts on offer, especially on wildcards, it is maybe understandable. After all, when you can win so much on one spin, who needs it done automatically?
