Champions Raceway Slot Review

Champions Raceway is presented by IGT, a developer that has enjoyed some success with its big slots releases as of late. While this isn’t the most impressive slot they have to offer, thanks to just having three reels, there is something inherently likeable from the game.

Strapped into the Saddle

Horse racing is an old staple of gambling, and is now being brought to your screens in the form of a fascinating new video slot. Champions Raceway brings the idea of sports betting to the video slot world in amazing fashion, with a look and design reminiscent of the famed horse racing tracks found around the globe.

Above the reels is a horse racetrack with five horses and riders ready to race, which should get you in the mood for a flutter.

Theme wise the name of this title is obviously a massive giveaway, but that really doesn’t tell all about the charming nature of this game. IGT deserve a huge amount of praise for what they’ve done with horse racing theme, as in certain aspects they have managed to turn nothing into something.

Flying out the of the Starting Blocks

At the top of the screen, there are five different rosettes, or badges that are given out to horse riders upon completing a race in the top three. Each rosette represents something, as the pink is worth five free spins, while the green is worth ten. There are three other rosettes as well, yellow is worth 250, blue worth 500, and red worth 1,500.

Running along the bottom of the screen are the game controls, the number of lines, and the line bet. The paylines are set to five, and the line bet ranges from 5.00 to a 100.00. With the line bet set to a minimum of 5.00, each 5-line bet costs you 25.00, and should you decide to go to the max bet of 100.00, then it will crank it all the way up to 500.00.

The play button is in the centre of the game control panel, represented by a yellow button with an arrow. There’s a smaller blue button on the right, which offers you autoplay anywhere from between 10 and 50 spins. Other buttons control sound and paytable information, at the top right of the screen above the rosettes.

Puns Aplenty

Slots developers are all about terrible puns, as we’ve seen before. Dad jokes are even better, and Champions Raceway is no different. It encourages players to enjoy a day at the races, informing them that “You will have to rein yourself in from all the action this game ponies up!”, which is certainly a clue to the overall tone of the game.

Gear up for a Photo Finish

As you spin, the horses begin to move, inching closer and closer to the finish line every time a horse’s rosette appears on the screen. Each time a horse reaches the finish line, you reap the benefits of that rosette’s worth, be it jackpot or multiple wins thanks to the Victory Lap Bonus. If more than one horse should reach the finish line, it’s a photo finish and a horse will be picked at random as the winner.

Charging down Champions Raceway!

Champion Raceway is exciting, which is surprising considering it’s a three-reel slot. The layout may not be much to admire, but the horses racing toward the finish line certainly add a certain flair to the game – especially when that Victory Lap Bonus kicks in and ponies up from Free Spins and a Victory Lap Multiplier.

Wild multiplier symbols can be found throughout the reels, boosting any payouts that you receive. Otherwise, just sit back and spin those reels, watching the horses’ race towards the finish line.

IGT’s Champion Raceway may not be terribly fancy or have the slick, cool graphics that a lot of video slots do, but it sure is a fun day at the races!
