      Dragon Lines Slot Machine Review

Chinese emperors have been associated with dragons. Did you know the dragon’s seat is the name used to refer to the imperial throne? Apart from their association with power, dragons are known to bring luck and fortune. That’s why you’ll come across dragons in various casino games.

Dragon Lines slot developed by Ainsworth is one such game that features dragons. The slot comes with five reels, three rows, and 100 paylines. Plenty of oriental artifacts are available as well but the dragons take center-stage. If you are a fan of dragons or simply want the fortune effect to rub on you, then this is a slot you want to check out.

      Pros and Cons

      • 100 different paylines
      • Medium volatility
      • Free spins bonus round
      • Fixed jackpot
      • Low player payout than most online slots

      Dragon Lines Symbols & Values

Chinese-inspired symbols populate the reels, offering handsome payouts. To start winning, however, you must match at least three symbols on the reels. It’s also worth noting that the game pays from left to right. Of these symbols, these are the high-value symbols:

      • The Chinese lanterns
      • Golden coins
      • Golden ingots
      • Firecrackers
      • Drums

The gold ingot is the most lucrative symbol, with 1,000 coins up for grabs for matching five on a single payline. The drum and lantern as well as the firecrackers hold up the lower end of the high-value symbols. Matching five of either symbol will see you get 300 coins and 150 coins respectively. The standard deck of cards, ace through to 9, forms the low-value symbols.

Special symbols in the form of scatters and wilds complete the paytable. Dragons are the wild in the game, replacing other regular symbols apart from the scatter symbol. The wild appears stacked, covering all three positions on the reels they land on. Note that the wild will only appear on the three central reels.

The scatter symbol is the Yin and Yang and landing three of these at random on the reels will see you get double your total wager. Five of these will see you bag 100 times your total bet. Apart from paying out, the scatter will trigger the game’s only bonus round, which is the Free Games feature. You’ll find out more about this later in the review. In the meantime, you can go through the slot’s entire paytable here:

      2 on a Payline
      3 on a Payline
      4 on a Payline
      5 on a Payline

      How to Play Dragon Lines

Dragon Lines is a fast-paced slot boasting 5 reels and 100 paylines. But before you can start spinning the reels, you need to adjust the payline structure to fit your budget. To do this, use the ‘+’ and ‘-’ buttons to configure the bet per line by increasing or decreasing the number of paylines and bet per line.

Speaking of bets, the minimum wager is set at €0.01 while the maximum is capped at €10,000 per spin. It’s a rather wide betting range, allowing low-budget players and high-rollers to enjoy the action.

Start playing by clicking on the ‘Play’ button or simply press the spacebar. If you feel clicking the play button is quite cumbersome, consider using the Autoplay function. This will automate the spins up to 50 at a time. All you have to do is set the wager amount. The only time the autoplay function will stop is if you hit the stop button, if you activate a bonus round, or if the set spins per round are depleted.

      Dragon Lines Slots Bonus Features

Apart from the regular wins in the base game, Dragon Lines comes with a Free Games bonus feature. To activate this feature, you need to land at least three scatter symbols on the reels. Once triggered, you will receive 10 free spins.

There’s nothing outstanding here except for the background track. To your bottom right, you’ll see the total wins during the feature. Stacked reels can appear during this feature for bigger wins. You can top up your spins counter during the feature by landing three extra scatter symbols.

After the round comes to an end, a pop-up box will appear within the game. Here, you will see your winnings for the feature. Press the ok button to take you back to the base game.

      Dragon Lines Mobile Device Compatibility

Mobile devices are ruling the gaming world and statistics by Statista agree. The daily mobile usage is expected to grow to 234 minutes in 2021.

Mobile usage time has been on an upward trend since 2014 at 152 minutes and later spiked to 215 minutes in 2018.

This increase has seen mobile gaming revenue rising to $63 billion across the globe (1). It’s games such as Dragon Lines that are responsible for the increased mobile gaming preference.

You don’t need a native mobile app to enjoy this slot. Instead, a mobile web browser is enough.

The slot is compatible with mobile devices including smartphones and tablets. Moreover, it’s compatible with popular operating systems such as Android, Windows, and iOS. Powered by HTML5 technology, gameplay on this slot remains seamless. The graphics are crisp and clear as well as fast load times, allowing you to enjoy amazing gameplay while on the move.

      Dragon Lines Fixed Jackpots

The jackpot here is not progressive but fixed. That means you will win a fixed amount of credits or amount. In this case, the jackpot here sits at 1,000,000. To bag this amount, you need to match five Yin and Yang symbols on the reels. With €10,000 as the maximum bet amount, the Yin and Yang symbol pays out 100 times your bet to make it 1,000,000.

      Dragon Lines Visuals & Sound

Chinese and Asian-themed slots are known for their eye-catching visuals and realistic soundtracks. Dragon Lines is not too far from delivering these aspects to fans of these themes. Starting with the visuals, the colors are bright and vibrant although easy on your eyes.

As for the symbols, Ainsworth has done quite well to pay attention to the details. For instance, you will come across animations of the dragon for every win. From the moment you load the game, you will feel an Asian atmosphere, with a red background.

In terms of the soundtrack, there’s nothing remarkable to write about, especially in the base game where the Chinese theme doesn’t seem to feature. It’s catchy though it gains a bit of tempo and excitement in the bonus feature as you spin the reels.

      Dragon Lines Slot Strategy

Slots are games of chance, which means there’s no specific strategy to employ for bigger wins. Having said that, you can learn how the Dragon Lines slot machine works to help you make better betting decisions.

One of the most crucial aspects is the payline and the minimum/maximum bet amount for each payline. Of course, how much you spend will depend on your bankroll. Once you’ve determined the amount you wish to spend, spin away. If you choose to use the autoplay function, ensure you have sufficient funds for the period the function will be active.

Slots use random number generators (2) to give a predetermined outcome for each spin. This makes the slots impartial and accurate at the same time, making it impossible to predict the outcome.

      Dragon Lines RTP/Volatility

The industry standard RTP stands at 95% to 96% for online slot machines. Dragon Lines RTP comes in at just under this threshold, offering players 94.30% RTP.  What this means is that you will win at least 94.30 times out of a hundred times you cast your net.

Therefore, for every $100 you bet, expect to get back at least $94.30. Of course, this is not guaranteed and while this may be slightly on the lower end, the volatility will help you stay afloat.

So what is this volatility or variance as is referred to by other punters?

Variance is the risk involved in playing a specific slot. Simply put, it allows you to determine just how much you can expect to win and how often these wins come by.

Highly volatile slots bear high risks because the payouts are few and far in between despite being quite massive when the stars align for a win. On the other end of the spectrum, low variance slots offer frequent wins but the downside here is that these wins are small.

But then there’s a category that seeks to balance the two extremes – medium variance. This is where the Dragon Lines slot game falls. The developer ensured you will get decent pay at regular intervals while maintaining a fair degree of risk.

      Dragon Lines Slot Machine Tips

As we’ve mentioned before, there are no definite strategies that can help you consistently gain an edge over a slot machine. However, there are some tips that we can give you that will make your playing experience better.

Stake What You Can Afford to Lose
Stake What You Can Afford to Lose

Bankroll management is one of the greatest assets a gambler can master. With this skill, you will know when to call it quits and when to give it a final push. Dragon Lines is a medium-level risk slot. That means the time taken between wins and the value of the win balances on the volatility scale.

In short, you’ll get solid wins quite often. But then you want to always keep an eye on your bankroll. Decide in advance the amount to spend on the slot before spinning the reels. This way you remain disciplined.

Play Dragon Lines Slot Machine for Free
Play Dragon Lines Slot Machine for Free

Yes, Dragon Lines is quite appealing on paper but does that appeal translate on the reels? Well, one way to find out whether this slot is up to your taste is to play it for free. This way you will have all the freedom to try out the various features in the game without burdening yourself with thoughts of winning.

Furthermore, playing a slot for free allows you to test out different strategies and bet amounts so that you’re better prepared when you play the slot for real money again.

      Overall Rating

Four aspects form the blueprint on which we craft our overall slot rating. These are the overall user experience, which looks at how easy it is for players to navigate different aspects of the game. With payouts, we look at whether players have a chance of bagging substantial wins based on the overall risk involved.

As for sounds and visuals, how captivating is the slot? Then there are the game features. What else does the slot offer apart from the base game? So, how does Dragon Lines perform against these metrics?

      Flaming Hot: Overall Score
      User Experience
      Game Features
      Sounds & Visuals
      Final Rating

      User Experience: 3.5/5

There’s nothing but positives to write home about when it comes to the overall user experience. We didn’t have any trouble locating the basic functions. Everything is located at the bottom of the reels.

Here you will find buttons to adjust the active paylines and the bet amount. On the far left of the function tab is the balance while on the far left is the win amount. To its left is the total bet amount. To the right is the spin button with the auto function. Just above the win amount is a blue ‘i’ icon that hosts the game’s information, including the paytable.

      Game Features: 2.5/5

This is one of the areas Dragon Lines disappoints. Apart from the base game, players will be treated to a single bonus feature in the form of Free Spins. Even with this feature, players will get only 10 spins initially. However, the fact that you can retrigger the feature comes as a relief, offering you a chance to increase your winnings.

The autoplay function is available for players looking to automate the spins. It can also come in handy if you need to take a short break from the screen.

      Payouts: 2.5/5

At 100 times your bet, the payouts in Dragon Lines are on the lower side. This further compounds the fact that there’s no progressive jackpot. While the payouts are quite disappointing, the volatility comes to the rescue.

Players can expect to bag wins more often since this is a medium variance slot. Of course, there’s a bit of risk involved, which also means you may not always win 94.30 times for every 100 times you spin the reels.

      Sounds & Visuals: 3/5

If you are a staunch Ainsworth fan, you are already familiar with the sounds produced once the reels come to a halt. A double clicking sound. It’s not the most captivating sound out there but at least it adds some realism to the whole gaming experience. There are other sounds as well, mostly system generated but they will change with bigger wins.

As for the graphics, everything looks polished. Nothing too outstanding that will command your attention though.

      Final Rating: 3/5

One word sums up this game: Generic. There’s nothing really that distinguishes Dragon Lines from other Chinese-themed slots out there. If you are looking for a simple slot featuring Asian culture, this will do it. Otherwise, there are far more interesting slots that warrant more attention.

Having said that, the gameplay and graphics just about live up to Ainsworth’s qualities. With gameplay, everything works seamlessly. From bet selection to spinning the reels. No distractions whatsoever. The graphics, on the other hand, are quite crisp and bold but generic.

When it comes to the betting range, Ainsworth seems to have had the low-budget players in mind. Even so, high-rollers can flex their pockets for big wins. Speaking of wins, there’s no progressive jackpot to reel-in massive interest. However, you can win up to 100x your bet courtesy of the scatter symbol. The free games feature is also on hand to keep you in the game for a while longer.

All in all, Dragon Lines slot is rather average, with nothing much to keep you engaged. With that said, if you are a fan of Asian-themed slots with chilled gameplay, consider trying out Dragon Lines!
