      Andy Capp Slot Review

Readers of the UK’s Daily Mirror and Sunday Mirror newspapers will be very familiar with the comic strip character Andy Capp. This cartoon chap was created by Reg Smythe in August 1957, and ungracefully graced the pages of these well-known tabloids for 60 years. He even had had his own annuals as well as being a mascot for Andy Capp-branded snack foods and an American convenience store chain. The comic featured many other characters, some of whom pop up on this online slot – particularly his wife Florrie, or Flo.

Andy lives in Hartlepool, north-east England, and loves racing pigeons, playing darts and snooker, betting on horses, boozing at his local and watching football. He often ends up in the clink for the night thanks to his antics. Andy is always falling on hard times, being unemployed and constantly behind with his rent. Let’s hope that you have more financial luck with this slot and your gambling savvy than Andy does in his own life.

      A Retro-Themed Slot

It’s not unusual to find comic-strip characters featuring in slot machines; however, this one is slightly more out of the ordinary in theme. Rather than being a superhero or sleuth detective, this one is a down-on-his-luck kinda guy. Things rarely go particularly well for poor Andy, and he often ends up in funny situations as a result. Funny for us, that is, not him!

The designer of this game is Blueprint Gaming, a studio based in the UK – but forming part of a wider German group – that creates mobile-optimised slots for the online casino market. They’re big on exploring and innovating, in a bid to provide entertainment and gambling fun that doesn’t conform to the standard blueprint (quite ironically, considering their name).

      Andy’s Handy for Inspiration

The free Andy Capp slot is well designed and stays true to its inspiration. The symbols are ten playing cards, TVs, footballs, moving darts, and the most lucrative symbol on the reels: a wild that replaces everything except the bonus symbol. The wild provides 25 times your bet should you land five on a win line.

As with many of Blueprint’s games, there are a variety of bonus features and lots of fun additional elements to get your teeth into. Andy Capp is great, therefore, if variety is right up your street. Plus, with bets starting from 0.20 and going all the way up to a high limit of 200.00, this will suit both the low rollers and the high rollers looking to load some serious cash into every spin.

      Football, Women and Ale

Kicking off the special round details is the Dream Women feature. In this, Andy is fast asleep. As he snoozes, bubbles emanate from his head, revealing his dreams to you. Should this dream include a stunning mystery lady, your symbols will be upgraded. If, however, he dreams of his wife Flo, the Dream Women feature ends abruptly. Sorry, Andy!

Next is the Colossal Ale feature, where a massive 3×3 wild ale symbol is included on the reels, together with other colossal symbols, to help you win big. There’s also the Andy’s Wild Dream feature, where new wilds are randomly added to the reels. Here, Andy is lucky enough to have his arms around two attractive buxom ladies. For the rest of the feature round, you’ll need to land the bonus on reels one, three and five to trigger a trip to one of the next five rounds.

Make it to this point to gain entry to the Jolly Riveter super bonus feature, with the opportunity to collect top-paying symbols in the setting of Andy’s favourite public house. The Andy Capp symbol increases your multipliers, and picking from the beer taps allows a reel respin or further collection.

Bonus round two is the Let’s Play Darts feature. Andy is a lover of the game, and here he takes a shot at throwing three darts at the board. Whatever number he hits results in a multiplier, with a maximum possible win of 180x your bets – so you better hope Andy’s aim is good.

The third bonus round sees the Boozer free spins feature award ten extra rounds with any lands collected. Once completed, you get a super spin in which all the wild symbols collected in the feature are released back into the game until the final payout is made. Bonus round four comprises the On Me ‘Ead free spins feature, which sees Andy take to the football pitch and provides an unlimited number of free spins. Once Andy heads a ball and scores, you get a sticky wild. The feature ends when Andy inevitably gets shown a yellow or red card, taking him off the pitch. Last but not least is the Bookies bonus feature, set in one of Andy’s other favourite locations: the betting shop. In this round, you must choose from one of three rosettes which contain multipliers.

      More Slots With Comic Characters

If you enjoy Blueprint Gaming’s style of slots, as well as the comic-book retro-themed slots, why not try Viz? This is a slot with a progressive jackpot that has been around for many years. Featuring a 20-payline, 5-reel layout, it’s not too dissimilar from the Andy Capp slot. The free Viz slot gives you the opportunity to win up to 200 free spins; it also includes some fantastic features and characters popping up on the reels. On Viz, you can play Johnny Fartpants’ Wheel of Fartune, Sid’s Progressive Sexpot, or the Roger Mellie Bonus Show, each offering the chance to add to your prize pot.

Another Blueprint slot you might want to check out is Ted. Also containing 20 paylines and a 5×3 reel layout, Ted has the same low-to-medium level of variance as Andy Capp, but with a 3% higher return to player at 95%. There are also free spins and free spin win multipliers up for grabs, with the real-life teddy character at the helm.

      Tip Your Capp to Andy

This is a fun game with a great them that pays homage to the original character. If you’ve never heard of Andy Capp, the game might seem a little bit alien and some of the references to the comic will be lost on you. But we reckon you might just fall in love with Andy quickly enough even if you haven’t seen him before.

For that reason, as well as for the fun bonus games and opportunity to bet up to 200.00 credits, we think Andy Capp is a well-designed, out-of-the-ordinary slot that’s worth checking out.
