      Fortune Jump Slot Review

Ancient Asia continues to enthrall games developers, for reasons that no one can quite fathom. Pagodas, temples and all things red feature prominently in this lively 5-reel slot that’s full of Eastern promise – whatever that means.

From the company who brought you Fortune Hill comes Fortune Jump. Their names might be similar but thematically these slots are continents apart; Fortune Hill was a fantasy Lord of the Rings romp set in Middle Earth, whereas Fortune Jump is of the Asian persuasion. It’s not the sharpest looking slot Playtech have ever released – Fortune Jump pales in comparison to its almost-namesake Fortune Hill. Still, the gameplay’s good and the graphics are colourful if nothing else.

Five reels and 40 paylines provide ample ways to win, with the prospect of landing 500x your stake should you scoop the jackpot prize. There’s a reasonable amount of variance in this game; play for pocket change or go all in and bet the house on the outcome of a few reel spins. It’s up to you how you’d prefer to play, but don’t get too carried away: select maximum bet and watch your bankroll disappear in the blink of an eye.

      Wood’s Good

A series of buttons styled to look like wood lie below the reels, which are housed in a standard 5×4 grid. The game’s 40 paylines can be adjusted, as can the stake per line, ranging from 0.01 to 25, resulting in a maximum outlay of 1,000 per spin.

In the background, the tiled roof of a Japanese pagoda can be made out, with a golden dragon snaking around the top of the reels to complete the Asian motif. The basic playing card symbols look like mosaic tiles, with the themed symbols made up of koi carp, a huge wave, pearls, Japanese inscriptions and a pagoda swamped by water. Are Playtech revisiting the 2011 Japanese tsunami?

      Something Fishy

Aside from being Asian, it’s hard to determine the theme of Fortune Jump until you get into the game proper and it becomes apparent that the jump in question is that of the koi carp leaping out of the water to activate a bonus feature. Any time the carp surfaces, you know you’re in for a good time as it transforms symbols into random wins. Wild is played by a golden koi carp. It will substitute for any of the other symbols except for scatter.

      Chest Bonus

If you’re wondering what that gold chest to the right of the reels is, that’ll be the Fortune Jump Bonus. Land four bonus symbols on the reels to open it and reveal two symbols inside. One of these will jump, swap positions with the other and generate winning combos on the reels. The other symbol of note in the game is scatter, played by an Asian bank note; land three or more of them anywhere in view to trigger a game where you’ll be tasked with picking a win.

In this multiplier bonus game, 20 circles will appear on the screen and you’ll be tasked with working through them, picking each one to discover what kind of a bonus it contains, be it a multiplier or a level up. Eventually, you’ll hit upon a square that will oblige you to collect your winnings and the bonus round will end. There are four levels to work through with increasingly valuable multipliers. Amass 18 picks before alighting upon ‘collect’ and you’ll be treated to a spin of the fortune wheel, which will grant you an extra bonus multiplier.

      Try Wonderland, Too

Should Fortune Jump prove to be your kind of game, you may want to try a similar slot like Wonderland by Gamesys or the quirky Ivanushka Durachok by Betconstruct. Both games have a similar format to Fortune Jump including free spins multipliers, albeit with a different number of paylines. Fortune Jump, incidentally, has an RTP of 96.11% when playing with all paylines activated and is rated as having medium variance.

      Fortune Favours the Brave

Fortune Jump isn’t the prettiest slot ever released, nor is it the most feature-rich. Despite that, it’s still an entertaining game, especially once that koi carp leaps out of the water, ushering in a flurry of wins. Ancient Asian-themed slots are ten a penny, and visually there’s nothing new here. Still, with a respectable RTP and a gentle learning curve, this remains a highly playable game.
