      American Diner Slot Review

American Diner builds upon the idea of one part of American life, especially when it comes to locations like New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and various other areas of the Northeastern and Midwest United States. In fact, the first diner was created back in 1872 by a man named Walter Scott. He took the decision to sell food out of a horse-pulled wagon to employees of the Providence Journal, in Providence, Rhode Island. Such business took off in a big way, and it wasn’t long before wagons gave way to pre-fabricated buildings, made by many of the manufacturers who had constructed the wagons before. It’s clear that this Novomatic game has taken every bit of inspiration from these classic cafés, whilst offering up a sort of retro 70s vibe at the same time. So, if you’ve always wanted to check out an American diner without having to order any of the food that goes along with it, this is definitely the game for you.

      Burger and Fries to Go?

Upon first glance, it appears as though there are five reels and three rows available as an interface, which would provide a fairly familiar interface to players. However, looking a little closer, you’ll see that the two outside reels are one each, while the central three are split into nine independent reels of their own. On each of these reels, you’ll find icons which have some sort of relation to not only an American diner in general, but also to the popular musical film, Grease. So, alongside the burger, fries and soft drink symbol, you’ll also have imagery of a flashy red car, a jukebox, and a male and female character who bear similar resemblances to Danny and Sandy of the movie.

Viewing the boxes at the bottom of the reels, it’s easy to think that there’s only a single pay line included in the game. However, this isn’t really how it works, as down each of the sides you can read the words, ‘All Pay’ in large print. However, this doesn’t really help so much as it could mean anything. However, players can change the amount that they wager per line, with the minimum value starting at $0.10 and being able to be increased up to its maximum of $40. Because it only advertises itself as providing a single line, the bet amount is not multiplied, and the maximum overall wager is therefore $40 per round.

      Go Greased Lightning!

So okay, it’s not actually a game based on the movie, but we like to think that it is. As special features go, this one has a few that are sure to delight, starting with the game’s logo. This icon acts as the wild symbol and will substitute for other icons on the reels to form a winning combination, except for scatters.

And speaking of the scatters, these are represented by the aforementioned colourful jukebox. Three or more of these appearing anywhere across the reels will trigger the ‘Jukebox Freespins’ round. This provides you with an initial five freespins of the reels, but during the round, should any jukebox icon land on the central nine reels, you’ll be rewarded with an extra one or two freespins on top. Alternatively, it can also increase your multiplier to a maximum of times five.

One more addition to this game, which is now a staple feature of Novomatic products on the whole, is the gamble option. After every winning combination created, you’ll be able to take advantage of the chance to double your funds. Doing so will present you with a deck of playing cards, and as all frequent gamers know, the idea is to try and guess the colour of the card which will be turned over next. A correct guess will double your winnings and give you the option of continuing on, while an incorrect guess will see you lose all of it.

      Let’s Rock and Roll!

It’s fairly unfortunate that Novomatic felt the need to include the arcade noise into this product every time the reels are spun, considering the potential for something more thematically relevant. However, it’s a small gripe about the product, and there is always a mute button handy. Apart from that, the icons on the reels are well-designed, game play is fluid, and the added extras make for a nice, well-rounded product on the whole.
