      Old King Cole Slot Review

If you’re unfamiliar with the theme behind this slot game, Old King Cole is a British nursery rhyme first realised in 1708. It is still unknown as to what the true identity of King Cole is, and he’s not known as an actual historical figure. The poem itself describes King Cole as being a merry old soul who called for his pipe, his bowl and his fiddlers three. Throughout the ages, the poem has been cited in films, television shows, political cartoons, video games and many other forms of media. Of course, it is now also available as the theme behind a video slot created by Microgaming. This particular offering turns the story into a bit of a mockery of the poem, presenting a bit more of a modern day take on what the story was originally written about. You’d think that this game would feature some kind of fiddle music, but because of this game’s modern day influence, it features a bit more of an updated type of music instead.

King Cole in the Modern Age

As far as playing this game is concerned, it is presented to you on a five reel and three row layout, so you’ll have a very familiar interface to spin the reels of. It is upon these reels that you’ll find the regularly appearing A, J, K, Q and 10 icons, and these are joined by four other higher paying symbols. The first of these is Cole’s bowl, but instead of being filled with a medieval concoction, it has colourful cereal grains instead. The second of these icons is his pipe, although this is displayed in the form of a purple shisha, while the third is the king’s updated version of the fiddlers three, which is actually three female guitar players! The fourth and final icon is that of King Cole himself.

Alongside the reels, rows and symbols, this game also includes a total of 20 different pay lines, but you do have the chance to adjust these if you have a preference for doing so. This is done by clicking on one of the numbers from either side of the reels, or by pressing the ‘Lines’ button. Furthermore, you can also change around the amount of your bet placed per spin, and this is done by altering the value of a single coin in the first instance, which provides a range of between $0.01 and $0.50. The amount of coins per pay line can also be changed between one and 10, and this allows a maximum overall wager of $100 per spin across all 20 lines.

      Updated Specialities

You’ll find that this game also includes a nice choice of special features as well, starting with its scatter symbol, which is represented by the king’s crown. The scatters will provide a pay out wherever they appear on the reels, and if you spin three or more of them into view, you’ll trigger the game’s freespins round. A total of 12 freespins will be given to you in the first instance, and there’s multipliers of up to seven times included in the round. During this round, two wild icons will be active within the game, which are represented by the vinyl record and the game’s logo.

The standard wild icon is the game’s logo, and this shows up in both freespins and the main game, and as a wild icon, it will substitute for all other symbols except for the scatters. Should you spin five wilds on to the reels on a winning pay line, it will provide a maximum pay out of 2,500 coins.

Finally, there’s the addition of a ‘Gamble Feature’ included in the game, and this is triggered at the end of each winning combination formed during the main game. Here, you’ll have the chance to increase your winnings. There’s a face down playing card presented in the middle of the screen and you need to decide whether it will be red or black in colour firstly, in which case you could double your winnings, or what the card suit is, in which case, a correct guess will quadruple them.

      A Summary of the King

It’s difficult to summarise this game properly, because while it doesn’t feature the highest quality of graphics or animations, it has a really nice theme that is instilled wonderfully into it. The special additions to the game make it a great game overall though, and the fact that it presents gamers with a modern day version of a classic poem gives it a bit more intrigue.
