      Genie's Gems Slot Review

Another slot game and yet more travel around the world. This time we’re off to the Far East to try and win cash on ‘Genie’s Gems.’

No sign of Aladdin in this game but we do have a genie and that’s always going to be good news for someone. Rather than rubbing a lamp to see what treasures it’ll bring we have to spin those reels and hope lady luck and the Genie bring us the jackpot. It seems this particular genie is in the jewellery business. Rather than doing the usual three wishes routine, he has a load of gems to give away, perhaps they fell of the back of a magic carpet.

‘Genie’s Gems’ has five reels, there are three rows of symbols and just the five pay-lines on which to try and get winning combinations. This is one of the early slot games from Microgaming and is nowhere near as complicated as a lot of their more recent releases. It’s still an entertaining game to play and ideal if you’re new to slot games and want a bit of a gentle introduction.

      Gems Galore

There’s no backdrop to the game, the reels fill up all the space. There’s just five reels and a total of five pay-lines on three rows of symbols. It’d be nice to see a backdrop to the reels, something else added to the view of the game but again, this is an early Microgaming release and a lot more effort has been put into design in the years that have followed.

The game has five main theme-related symbols. There’s a flying carpet, the lamp in which the genie has been imprisoned before finally escaping, the genie, a massive blue diamond and an elegant looking temple. Also we get the standard ten to Ace playing card symbols.

      Where’s the Wild?

When you play a modern-day slot game you’re expecting a little bit of help with getting some winning combinations. That often means the presence of a wild to substitute for other symbols and get you some wins out of nowhere. The terrible news in this game is that there’s no wild. Honest I’m not making it up, this game is wildless, if such a word exists and if it doesn’t well it does now. A big disappointment and it makes getting wins out of this game that little bit harder. Perhaps whoever rubbed that lamp and was granted three wishes, ran out of them before getting to the ‘I wish this slot had a wild’ wish. No scatter or bonus symbol here either, that genie needs to get more wishes to grant.

      Top Paying Genie

You do get a fair number of wins in this game but it’s a high variance slot. That means lots of small wins courtesy of those playing card symbols. In fact, with the ten and Jack playing card symbols, you can get a winning combination just for two of them on an active pay-line. Getting the larger wins isn’t so easy. The highest pay-out here is 10000x your line stake. To get that you need five of the genie symbols on an activated pay-line. That’d certainly pay for a few lamps if that win comes along for you.

All that makes this a simple game but even though that is the case, it’s still a good idea to pay a visit to the paytable just to see how much each of the winning combinations pays out. As for operating the game it’s again straightforward with the control buttons underneath the reels. Therefore, setting your stake for each spin of the reels is no problem at all.

Playing the game has a minimum cost of €1.25 if choosing to activate all five pay-lines and the maximum cost is €25. It’s not expensive to play therefore so you shouldn’t find it a problem at all working out a comfortable amount to gamble on each spin of the reels.

      Final View

A simple game with no wild, scatter or bonus symbols and not a free spins bonus round in sight. A bit disappointing if that’s what you are used to but there’s still chances to get some decent wins out of this. Probably ideal if you’re new to the slot world or just like the theme.
