Spacemen 2 Slot Review

Space conquest is not something to be taken lightly. Sci-fi fans know that many dangers lurk in the darkest corners of the universe, from aliens to giant asteroid collisions.

But if you are a true adventurer at heart, that sort of warning would probably not enough to deter you from stepping into the closest spaceship and heading out to the other of the galaxy. And if this is not an option in real life, well there are still plenty of space-themed slot games out there to enjoy – and the final result is practically the same.

Spacemen 2 is a video slot game developed by Merkur as the direct sequel of Spacemen (full stop). Every major sci-fi saga is rich in sequels, some successful and others less so.

Back into Space

Spacemen 2 quite close to Spacemen in terms of settings. Once again, you will be staring at the vastness of outer space through the game screen, orbiting close to a large, unknown planet with a myriad of stars shining in the distance. Spacemen 2 benefits from a general graphic update, with more realistic features and better 3D effects on the reels as well.

The rest of the screen is occupied by the classic and simplistic Merkur command bar, with only a handful of buttons to worry about. The sound effects are very retro and add a lot of character to the whole experience.

Think more the original Star Trek series than the latest episode of the Star Wars saga, and there you have Spacemen 2. While it does away with the cartoon style of the first game, Spacemen 2 is still quite close in terms of style to Ash Gaming’s Space Invader.

Ftl Drive Engaged

You will not need to take a special starship permit in order to be able to manoeuvre Spacemen 2. The commands of the game are extremely simple, and it will only take a few clicks on the plus and minus buttons at the bottom of the game screen to adjust your wager and get ready to place your bet. Contrary to Spacemen, you have full control over the 20 paylines of the game as well. Use the bet max button if you would like to play all-in, or activate the autoplay game mode to let your spaceship drift away on its own for a moment.

Each win on the reels also gives you access to no less than two different gamble mini games. Both are completely optional, and you always have the possibility to walk away and collect your reward directly. Choose between the guess-the-card challenge or the win ladder, both of which being classic Merkur features.

A Little Boost

Spacemen 2 also benefits from an upgrade on its paytable. Even the classic card icons can be worth up to 125 times your initial wager here. As before, the planets, satellites, comets and rocketships are rarer and more valuable on the reels, with a top win going up to 750 times your bet value.

With an RTP of 96.01%, that kind of big win is slightly more likely to be triggered than in the original Spacemen. In terms of average volatility, Spacemen 2 is equivalent to its big brother and offers a rather low variance to players.

Spacemen 2 is not stingy when it comes to bonus features either. The big and bright star symbol shines like the sun and takes the role of the wild card in the game. Wherever it lands, the star can replace the basic symbols and doubles the value of the subsequent combinations. The astronaut also makes a comeback here, still as a scatter.

The top reward of the entire game is a huge x10,000 prize, available when finding 5 astronauts anywhere on the reels at the same time. It will only take 3 scatter to trigger a bonus round of 15 free spins, during which absolutely every single reel symbol will behave as a scatter. Here again, we have one big reference to the original Spacemen game.

To Go Boldly Where No Player Has Gone Before

Spacemen 2 is a boosted version of Spacemen, and as such does not really offer anything original to players who have had the chance to play the original game.

Bigger wins are better graphics are always enjoyable, though, and if you have loved spinning the reels and exploring the cosmos in Spacemen, Spacemen 2 and its 20 paylines is not likely to disappoint you.
