      My Flag Slot Review

We entered into My Flag without any prior knowledge of the game and the details of its paytable – we were flying blind, into the unknown, and we weren’t sure the payoff was going to be worth the trouble. Even when we arrived at Merkur and loaded up the slot, we still remained skeptical, for we’ve been burnt by the brand before. We shouldn’t have fretted too much though because we got an unusual and classic real cash slot all in one place.

That’s right, the game starts off with fancy footwork, asking you to pick your nation’s flag, and then it reduces down into an old school influenced set of dynamics. It shouldn’t work out as well as it does, but My Flag creates an enticing atmosphere that we want to explore.

      Vast Amounts of Space

The most curious part of the My Flag package is the space aesthetic; we have the usual traditional images of fruits, and then it’s placed on a cosmic backdrop. Granted that scene is a basic one, with only the pinpricks of stars in the distance informing you of where you are, but the theme is still an intriguing choice nonetheless.

It feels like Merkur have tried to inject some modernity into their slot machines, but without risking their crown as reigning classic slot champions; they appear to have succeeded. We don’t know why, but we feel more drawn to this game than most of their other vintage offerings, even though the 3×5 grid and controls are in the same place as they always are.

      Flying the Flag

Let’s return now to the opening screen where you watch as the flags form a ring around the moon and prompt you to make a selection; that flag is the key to high wins. You’ll still have the rest of the paytable to engage with, but it’s the flag that can give you all the money. To get it you’ll need to create matches of between three and five, so far as standard, but then you have a lottery type of selection process in which the level of prize worth is selected.

Say you get the Gold Win from your flag (a match of five), you can get between 20 and 80 credits for that combination, when betting with the lowest amount. Should you increase your punt up to the maximum figure, you can win between 6,000 and 9,000 credits. At the top end of the pay-in scale, any win is worthwhile, but at the lower end players don’t fare so well. This is a random process, from what we can see, and so you’ll never know what you’re going to get until it’s added to the kitty.

      Tough Cookie

My Flag may have little variance to offer you, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to go down without a fight, quite the opposite in fact. No matter your bet size you’re going to have a high level of volatility to deal with, and so those looking for a relaxed playthrough are best seeking out another slot. Preferably not from Merkur, as the brand always presents a challenge to its users.

That volatility continues into the gamble features of the game, though you have a more equal chance when playing with those as there’s a 50/50 probability of winning. Seeing as that’s the case, it comes down to personal preference on whether you’d prefer to play a card based guessing game or a ladder one. Those familiar with the brand will have seen both these options before; Merkur rarely deviate from their norms.

      Back down to Earth

My Flag is an interesting game, but it doesn’t deliver enough to make it worth playing more than once; the variance is low and the difficulty is high. There’s no extras to interact with to add a greater sense of entertainment, and even the low pay-in can’t make it a slot machine we favour. Sadly, Merkur have missed the mark with this game.
