Are you ready? Let’s get started!

      • No wild symbol

How to Play the Texas Tea Slot

The Texas Tea slot was released by IGT on October 4, 2009. The slot’s theme takes after the oil boom in Texas, which happened in the early 20th Century. (1)

The Texas oil boom, sometimes called the gusher age, was a period of dramatic change and economic growth in the U.S. state of Texas during the early 20th century.

      Texas Oil Boom, Wikipedia

Playing the Texas Tea slot is pretty simple. The slot is set up with 5 reels, 3 rows, and 9 paylines. While the number of paylines might not seem to be much compared to other slots, Texas Tea provides plenty of opportunities for you to win with their in-game features.

To start spinning the reels, you’ll need to set your bet amount and then click the button on the right side of the screen to spin the reels. In order to win, you’ll need to match the payline structure in at least three adjacent reels from left to right with a symbol.

Once you hit a payline, you’ll be paid out based on the symbol hit and the number of symbols present within that payline.

      Betting Range

Texas Tea also has a pretty wide betting range. However, there’s a caveat to this. The requirements for the minimum bet are quite high. Whereas other slots might make their minimum bet only $.10, Texas Tea’s minimum bet is $5.

On the other hand, Texas Tea’s maximum bet is $900, meaning that if you manage to hit the right payline, you could potentially make five figures in winnings.

Therefore, we believe that Texas Tea is best suited for high-rollers. As shown by the high betting amounts, Texas Tea is pretty high-risk and requires players to be comfortable with losing large amounts of money before getting paid back.

      Symbols and Values

There are 11 symbols that you can find when spinning the Texas Tea reels. Of the eleven symbols, nine of these are regular payline-based symbols while the other two symbols help activate bonus games.

The lowest-paying symbols are all four flowers, with three matching symbols paying out only 10X the line bet. Meanwhile, the highest-paying symbol is the Texas Tea logo which pays out 10,000X your line bet.

For more information on all the symbols in Texas Tea and their respective payouts, be sure to check out our paytable below.

Unfortunately, Texas Tea does not possess any wild symbols. Furthermore, with only nine paylines to win from, it’s possible you’ll have the occasional cold streak to deal with.

To make up for this, Texas Tea possesses two different bonus games that you can take advantage of. Each bonus game has its own respective scatter symbol, meaning that you can find two different scatter symbols when playing Texas Tea.

      Texas Tea Slot Machine Features

The two main features in this game are the “Oil Dividend” bonus and the “Big Oil” bonus game. In order to unlock the Oil Dividend bonus, you’ll need to land three Texas Ted scatter symbols anywhere on the board.

In order to unlock the Big Oil bonus game, you’ll need to land three oil derrick scatter symbols in a payline.

Unfortunately, Texas Tea does not possess other features such as expanding wilds or free spins. In our opinion, this makes the game’s entertainment pretty limited. Fortunately, Texas Tea did manage to knock it out of the park with both the Oil Dividend and Big Oil bonus game.

      Bonus and Jackpot

The first thing you’ll notice when playing the Texas Tea slot is that the Oil Dividend and Big Oil bonus games are drastically different. For one, it’s hard to even call the Oil Dividend a bonus game since the Oil Dividend is just an animated scene.

In this scene, Texas Ted begrudgingly agrees to make you a partner, thus entitling you to a dividend of the company’s profits. As a result, you receive a random bonus multiplier on your total bet based on the number of scatters landed.

The respective multiplier amount is as follows:

      • 3 Scatter Symbols: 3X, 8X, 15X, or 25X
      • 4 Scatter Symbols: 8X, 10X, 25X, 40X, or 50X
      • 5 Scatter Symbols: 20X, 30X, 50X, 75X, or 100X

As you can see, there’s no real game when you unlock the Oil Dividend bonus. Rather, you receive a multiplier on your total bet based on the number of scatter symbols you hit to unlock the bonus.

The Big Oil bonus game is more hands-on since you actually make decisions that determine how much you win. However, at the same time, activating this bonus can be a little more challenging. For one, unlike the Oil Dividend bonus, you need to land your scatters in a payline to activate the feature.

Once Big Oil has been activated, you can choose from nine different regions to claim land. The number of regions you get to claim is based on how many oil derricks were landed to activate the bonus.

Once you’ve chosen your regions, the derricks get to work, drilling out the land and paying the player a random amount. However, the number of derricks does affect how much a player is paid out since more derricks translates to more valuable land.

Here’s a rundown of the payouts per piece of land based on the number of oil derricks hit:

      • Three Derricks: 5-100 Credits
      • Four Derricks: 5-200 Credits
      • Five Derricks: 5-495 Credits

Once you’ve been paid out, the game automatically returns you back to the normal screen and you continue playing.

      RTP and Variance

Texas Tea has an RTP ranging between 96.2% and 97.35% and a medium volatility. An RTP ranging between 96.2% and 97.35% means that, for every $1,000 wagered in the long run, you can expect to win anywhere between $962 and $973.50.

With most slots having an average RTP of 96%, Texas Tea’s RTP puts its payouts at above average when compared to most slots.

However, you shouldn’t use RTP as your sole way of determining how much you can expect to win from a slot. Luck always plays a factor into how your session goes. You can easily hit a jackpot and go over the projected winnings amount.

Similarly, you can also go on a cold streak and lose most of your money during that time. Either way, luck will usually vary things one way or the other.

Texas Tea’s medium volatility means that there’s some risk associated with the slot. However, the payouts are big enough to make the risk worth it.

For reference, low volatility slots have basically no risk, meaning that you’ll consistently hit paylines. However, their payouts are pretty small.

On the contrary, high volatility slots have a lot of risk, meaning that it’s entirely possible that you could go on a long cold streak before hitting a single payline. At the same time, their payouts are significantly larger, meaning that you can win much more off a single payline compared to low volatility slots.

Texas Tea’s medium volatility puts the slot squarely in between low volatility and high volatility slots. There’s some risk to the game. However, there are also payouts that can reward you for this risk.

      Texas Tea Slot Tips

Since Texas Tea is a slot machine and slot machines are based mostly on a random number generator, there aren’t many tips that we can give you. After all, most of your success comes from how the reels spin that day. Nevertheless, there are still some tips that we can give you when playing the Texas Tea slot. None of these tips can guarantee you a jackpot or consistent bonus games. However, by following what we say, we can at least help you maximize your winnings.

      Bet Within Your Range

This is a practice that is commonly applied across all types of gambling. Whether you’re playing Texas Hold ‘Em, Baccarat, or slots, you should always bet what you can afford to lose. A good way to see if you’re betting too much is to gauge how you feel before you spin. Do you feel uncomfortable, on edge, or stressed? If you feel any of these emotions, then you’re probably wagering over your budget. If you bet within your range, you can last much longer on the reels, leading to a higher probability of hitting one of the bonus games as well as a better chance at landing high-paying symbols.

      Bet Both Big and Small

In our opinion, you should always mix up how much you bet. If you’ve won a few big spins, it might not be a bad idea to bet big. If you’re running low on funds, then bet smaller than your regular wager. For instance, if you usually bet $10 per line and you’ve just hit two big paylines, then up the wager to $15 per line. After all, you’ll have the funds to do so from those wins. On the other hand, if you’re on a cold streak and you’re nearly out of funds, it’s best to cut your bet amount to as low as you can. In this case, we would set the bet amount to $5 per line. By betting big when you can afford to, you exponentiate any possible winnings that come with an increased wager. And by betting small when you need to, you lower the risk that comes with the slot as you play.

      Play for Fun

This is one tip we like to use in order to keep a cool head whenever we’re playing slots. Keeping a cool head is essential to making sure that you don’t overspend. By playing for fun and not for money, you focus less on the possibility of losing your hard-earned cash and more on what the slot offers. After all, no matter what slot you play, losing money is always something that can happen. If you continue to think about this, then you can quickly become stressed which can hinder your decision-making.

This means when people under stress are making a difficult decision, they may pay more attention to the upsides of the alternatives they’re considering and less to the downsides. (2)

      Play Texas Tea on Mobile

Because of how popular Texas Tea has become, you can expect to find the slot on your favorite mobile casino app. Currently, Texas Tea is compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, and Blackberry devices.

Whenever you play on a mobile device, it’ll feel just as smooth as if you were playing on a desktop. The only real difference is that there’s less playing space when playing on a phone versus a computer.

When it comes to accessing a mobile casino, you can either download an app or play from a mobile browser.

However, to get the best mobile gaming experience possible, you’re probably going to want to play through a mobile browser. The reason being is that most online casinos prefer to configure for mobile browsers rather than an app.

For one, apps can take significant time and resources to develop. On top of this, Google only just recently began to allow real money casino apps on their play store. As a result, most online casinos have adjusted their site for most mobile browsers rather than creating an app.

Nevertheless, because of how popular mobile casino gaming has become, you should be able to play slots on your device. Therefore, whether you’re at the beach, with friends, or simply by yourself, playing Texas Tea is always an option.

      Overall Rating

Here at Gamblib, we like to compile our overall rating of a slot game based on four areas: user experience, game features, payouts, and sounds & visuals.

We applied these ratings to the Texas Tea slot. That way, we can come up with a definitive ranking to help you determine whether or not you want to put your money here.

      Gamblib logo
      Texas Tea: Overall Score
      User Experience
      2/5
      Game Features
      3/5
      Payouts
      4/5
      Sounds & Visuals
      3/5
      Final Rating
      3.00/5

      User Experience: 2/5

We found the user experience to be pretty lackluster. For one, not everything was easily accessible. Rather than having all their important buttons compiled together, every button was placed in a different area with some buttons taking multiple clicks to reach.

Furthermore, the gameplay was hard to enjoy at times simply because the game was lagging or we had to wait for paytables to load so that we could see payouts for symbols.

While we did appreciate that they were trying to go for a simple front-end design, it ultimately felt like there wasn’t enough for the game to feel easily playable.

      Game Features: 3/5

While there weren’t as many in-game features as we would’ve liked, the two bonus games they did have kept us entertained for hours. Both features paid out really well with multipliers reaching into the hundreds.

Unfortunately, the only thing that really kept us entertained with the bonus games were the payouts. Aside from that, it was pretty hard to stay engaged for the entire session.

Therefore, we’re giving Texas Tea’s in-game features an “OK” rating. They did good enough to keep us interested,  but there was no X factor that made us jump out of our seats.

      Payouts: 4/5

The payouts in this game were pretty generous. Despite only having nine paylines to win from, most symbols had a pretty large multiplier. This meant that if we hit a payline, we tended to get paid out pretty well.

Furthermore, both of the bonus games really helped in earning extra winnings. The Oil Dividend bonus could pay us up to 100X our total bet while the Big Oil bonus left us with more than 2,000 extra credits at times.

Therefore, even without features like free spins and expanding wilds, we still had plenty of opportunities to get paid out. The game rewarded us for our time and left us with some pretty big wins at the end of our session.

      Sounds & Visuals: 3/5

Despite having one of the most creative themes we’ve seen to date, we couldn’t help but feel like IGT missed the target with Texas Tea.

With the entire slot being centered around oil and striking it rich in Texas, we were expecting everything to be related to the theme. However, the first thing we noticed when we booted up the slot was that the background was just a plain blue sky with a green field.

This confused us since this made the game seem more like a farming-themed slot. The background had no ties to anything oil-related and the cactus at the bottom of the screen seemed to be a random item  that the developers thought would be a good idea.

The symbols did a better job adhering to the theme. Every symbol was either related to Texas or related to oil in some manner. Furthermore, each symbol was designed to have a playful and carefree look to them, making the overall gameplay feel more nonchalant.

The sound did a much better job of entertaining us than the visuals. For one, the background music was vibrant and exciting, making you feel like you were about to go on an adventure.

There were also a variety of different sounds that would be played if you hit a payline. The most standard was a series of dings. However, certain symbols also made their own noise if you landed them in a payline.

For example, if you managed to land enough Texas Ted’s, his car would make a honking noise while you were awarded your winnings.

All in all, we feel like Texas Tea did really well in some areas and pretty poorly in others. They hit the mark with the music and sounds. However, their lack of background and adherence to the theme left us wanting more.

      Final Rating: 3/5

You don’t need to be a Texan to enjoy the Texas Tea slot. However, you might need quite the budget to enjoy the winnings that come with this game.

The slot is largely meant for high-rollers, meaning that you’ll need to bet big in order to win big. Luckily, Texas Tea provides plenty of opportunities to get paid out. From their two bonus games to their generous multipliers, there’s always money to be won whenever you spin the reels.

Unfortunately, Texas Tea does have its drawbacks. For one, the graphics sometimes struggle to adhere to the theme and the user experience is a bit clunky.

Nevertheless, we still had a good time whenever we played the Texas Tea slot. The payouts were plentiful and the gameplay was entertaining. Therefore, if you like to play high-roller slots, it’d be worth your time to check out Texas Tea.
